The theme of lord of the flies is to not stop at anything to reach your. This theme is developed by charecters setting and plot. The lord of the flies is a story about a bunch of castaway kids. These kids had esablished a leader ,Ralph. Thay also have a bunch of hunters led by Jack Merridew. First is the theme of the book, not stopping at anything to reach your goals. Ralph who was voted the leader of all the boys, wanted to be rescued most of all. So Ralph on page 81 banned the use of fire anywere other than the mountain top. He was sacrificing the convenience of everybody so they could be …show more content…
The mountain on the island allows for them to be rescued easier because of the flame you can put up there. So Ralph can have it easier to not give up. The setting of the island is harsh so the charecters have to struggle. Which makes it hard for the rest of the boys goals of staying alive. The setting of the story helps develop the theme by the ships that will pass by so the rescuing job is possible and they have more hope. The plot of the story helped develop the theme of never giving up by providing challenges like the failiure of the fire. When the littluns spotted a "beast" it distracted the older boys from the task at hand but they were able to resolve that there was no such thing but many little ones did not believe that. As I said this posed a obstacle to go around because of the distraction.The plot also developed the theme by the ship that passed while the fire was out. It made Ralph more aware and work harder at his goal to get rescued. Another sign of the plot developing the theme is Piggy always being pushed away from everything but he still keeps on trying to get into all the action so he is stopping at nothing to be a part of the group.     In the beginning, while the boys were still civilized, their main worry was to keep the fire going. Ralph in particular was always focused on getting the attention of a passing ship; “We’ve got to have special people for looking after the fire. Any day there may be a ship out there... and if we have a signal going they’ll come and take us off” (Golding 42). After a while, Ralph starts to forget the purpose of the fire, and he has to be reminded why it is so important; “Ralph tried indignantly to remember. There was something good about a fire. Something overwhelmingly good... ‘How else are going to be rescued?’” (Golding 163). This shows that Ralph, the most civil person on the island, is also losing himself in savagery. Eventually the boys do end up getting rescued by the fire, however not by the signal fire, but by the wildfire that Jack and his group started while they were going after Ralph; “Behind him, the whole island was shuddering with flame... his voice rose under the black smoke before the burning wreckage of the island” (Golding 201-202). The final fire exemplifies that savagery literally took over and burned down the island. Although they were saved, they’ll never be the same…

    During the beginning of the novel, it is very obvious that the fire is valued and very thoroughly taken care of. Golding makes this point by saying,”” The fire is the most important thing on the island. How can we ever be rescued except by luck, if we don’t keep a fire going?””(Golding 31) This quote, said by Ralph, shows his eagerness to keep the fire going and also to be rescued as soon as possible. Now that Ralph has realized that the fire is not the top priority to the rest of the boy’s, he is left with only Piggy, Simon, and SamnEric to tend to the fire.     Ralph the protagonist of the novel took the role of the initial leader. While in charge, he declared that the first objective to be completed was to build a signal for rescue. His best idea was to create a signal fire, which in turn allowed passing ships to come and explore the island for castaways. "There's another thing. We can help them to find us.
