ESSAY QUESTION NUTCRACKER
1a) Identify the sources that Bourne used to choreograph Nutcracker! Music Design Style Subject matter 1b) Providing examples from Nutcracker!, discuss how Bourne has used these sources.
Music In Nutcracker! Bourne uses original music instead of music composed just for the show; however he carefully selects the music to particular scenes so they can reflect what’s happening in the story. For example, in scene 2 when the orphanage is preparing for the visit of the governors, the frantic music at the start works well with the orphans running around tidying and cleaning. Also as Sugar and Fritz perform they’re party piece the music builds up as the orphans are getting a bit restless because they’re all expected to look up to Sugar and Fritz but none of them really do. As the music changes throughout the scene it has an effect on the style of the choreography; the choreography goes from mimes and child-like movements into more of a highland fling. This is also the case in Act 2. In the first scene of act 2, scene 7, at the beginning the music is flowing, to emphasise the arrival of the cupids from heaven. However when the cupids land

As I watched The Rite of Spring and The Nutcracker, the music is very different. Knowing time period these two ballets were written in I sort of expected it. The Nutcracker has a lot of musical melodies and themes from the Romantic Period. The Rite of Spring has very aggressive dynamics and very sharp rhythms. The music in The Nutcracker helps the audience set a tone and understand the season that the performance is taking place in as well as what is going on in during the ballet.…

Of Mice and Men was an inspiring book written by John Steinbeck about George and Lennie trying to get by in the Great Depression. George and Lennie had been friends for a very long time and had grown to depend on each other. Throughout the book Lennie asked George to tell him about them, about how they were going to get a place and live together, and how Lennie would get to tend the rabbits. They never got to do that, as life would have it, reality got in the way. In the end of the book George betrays his best friend and kills Lennie. I believe it was consider murder for multiple reasons the first being that you never ever kill somebody, the second is that George said that he could live in peace by himself if Lennie weren’t around and the last being that Lennie was mentally challenged and he didn’t know what he was doing.…

Imagine finding a dog in some alley. There's no way it can help itself and nothing anybody else could do to help it. Death, the one thing every person will eventually face, could be seen as an end or an entrance. What is your extent of a friendship? How far are you willing to go to help the person you care for? For many reasons, the majority of people think murder is immoral—especially if it was your own best friend. But sometimes we may have to go to the extreme, as long as we know it was the right thing to do from the heart because that’s how much you know you care. Steinbeck Presents Crooks in the novel as quite a lonely ¬but strong, clever and talented man. We can tell he is lonely because he lives on his own in a small shed with one little room. This is shown when Steinbeck writes: “Crooks, the negro stable buck, had his bunk in the harness room... On one side of the little room...” and also “... a little bench for leather-working tools, curved knives and needles...” However it shows us that he has more freedom then the other men as it says: “Crooks could leave his things about, and being a stable buck and a cripple, he was more permanent than other men...” This tells us that although he is excluded from the other men in the workplace, it shows us that he can have more freedom then the other men and also he works longer than other men do.…
