In this essay I am going to be writing about one of the main characters in John Steinbeck’s novella ‘Of Mice and Men’. The story portrays the travels and arising problems of two migrant workers who share an uncommon friendship for the time and environment in which the novella is set. Lennie Small is the character I will be exploring and I will start off by giving a detailed explanation of his physical appearance and behaviour. Second I will look at his and the other main character George’s relationship which will then be followed by Lennie’s relationships with other characters throughout the book. I will then go on to look at the foreshadowing in which Steinbeck displays in the story and finally I will conclude the story of its final climax.…

The book Of Mice and Men was written by John Steinbeck and takes place during the Great Depression. Throughout the book we follow the two main characters, George and Lennie. George is shown to have much power over Lennie. These two and many other characters struggle with obtaining, holding, or keeping “under control” the amount of power they have or want. In Steinbeck's novel, the theme that seems to be most present is that, although people seek power, they often misuse it after obtaining it.…

Politician, Hubert Humphrey once said, “The greatest gift of life is friendship, and I have received it”. Friendship is a very important aspect of life. Friendship gives the opportunity to escape from loneliness, to have someone be there in a time of need, to give support when mistakes are made, and allow an escape from reality when you’re feeling blue (Whitbourne). In the novel Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck uses characterization and conflict to help develop the theme that friendship is one of the most important aspects to live life to the fullest extent.…

In the tragic novela of mice and men steinbeck presents many themes and symbols that are being represented. Two of the themes are, the predatory nature of human existence, the predatory nature of human existence means that humans are born with the nature of being predatory or hunting other humans or thing. when Crooks criticizes Lennie’s dream of the farm and his dependence on George is a big example of this theme in the novela. Another theme would be the importance of fraternity and bonds between men. The men in Of Mice and Men desire to come together in a way that would allow them to be like brothers to one another. That is, they want to live with one another’s best interests in mind, to protect each other, and to know that there is someone in the world dedicated to protecting them is a very big example of the importance of fraternity and bonds between men.…

‘’Of Mice and Men’’ is a book about loneliness and there are many symbols that represent it, for instance the bunk house and the Crook being separated form the other men, a symbol of isolation because to loneliness because since Crook is black and no one is allowed to enter to Crook’s room and if you think about it Steinbeck has a variety of people of different shape, size, and gender making his own little world of different people and discrimination. J.W. Van Goethe once said “no two persons regard in the world in exactly the same way.” This means everybody has different views of the world and responds physically and mentally to different situations. I agree with this quote because we all have different perspectives and we often debate about the way we view society. In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck clearly shows how two persons are different in their own independent ways. The story of two migrant workers, George and Lennie run away from a farm in weed California because Lennie who freezes when he’s s cared, doesnt let go of a girls dress she panics and accuses him of rape. they try to make their dream come true of having their own house where they can live off the fat of the land. George and Lennie have to work at a ranch miles away from their preceding job, they meet the bosses son named Curly who has a short temper, and also meet a well-respected jerk line skinner who people look up to. Both men regard the world in different ways and both have different personalities that make them who they are.…

---In John Stienbeck's Of Mice and Men, almost every character has a dream, hope, or plan. These plans, hopes, and dreams gives each character their own personality and character traits. George and Lennie's dream of one day owning their own farm makes their lives worth living and kept them going. Curley's Wife is a prime example of the disappointment that comes with the let down of a failed dream. And finally, Candy and Cooks, who's underlying problems with discrimination, both against age and nationality, reflects how they act, and how they would prefer they were treated.…

John Steinbeck uses the convention of Character, supported with techniques of conflict, dialogue, foreshadowing, symbolism and tone. This encourages the reader to respond to the themes of Friendship and Loyalty, Loneliness and Prejudice; and lastly Feminism. These are all found in this setting of the Great Depression, directing the reader to find the deeper meaning behind each of these themes, by making it easier to relate to, making the novella come alive, revealed through the use of Steinbeck’s chosen characters in this tragic novella Of Mice and Men.…
