Enemy Pie Synopsis
Enemy Pie was a very good book about a boy who is planning on having a wonderful summer. Everything is going right for him so far until one boy, Jeremy Ross, moved into town. Jeremy Ross had quickly become the boy’s worst enemy ever. He treated Jeremy poorly, like an enemy.
The boy asked his father for advice about what to do with enemies. Because his father had experiences with enemies as a child, knew a how to get rid of them. His father's ways of getting rid of enemies was called "Enemy Pie”. This made the boy's mind wonder about what could be so bad and nasty about Enemy Pie that it would get rid of an enemy forever. He started thinking maybe he could make his hair fall out or make his breath stink. To get your enemy to eat enemy pie, you had to spend the entire day with the person and be nice to them like they weren't your enemy.
The boy hated the idea of having to spend the day with his enemy, but he decided that one day with his enemy was much better than having to deal with him for the rest of his life. He goes to Jeremy's house and they start to play. After playing at Jeremy's house for awhile they headed back to the boy's house to play some more and to eat. After supper the boy's father brings out desert, which just happened to be the Enemy Pie. The thing was the boy had realized that Jeremy wasn't actually that bad and that they had a lot of fun together. He actually didn't consider him an enemy anymore. He warns Jeremy not to eat the pie because something bad might happen to him, but Jeremy noticed that the boy’s father has already eaten most of his piece of pie. The boy was confused, but they all started to eat the pie. It was very good and the enemy pie worked. The boy had no clue how it worked or what was in the pie, but he had lost his best enemy and has gained a new friend.
I enjoyed this book and feel that it would be a great book to read to students. It could be used for situations where you notice your students or children are making enemies

I had always been told this book was incredible and I never read it because it just didn't seem like my type of book, but this course gave me the opportunity to read this book and really reflect on it. I suppose there are many different ways that I could use this book in both my personal and professional life. All of the different things going on in this book really helped me to notice some of the signs that children who suffer from abuse and neglect will often show. Children coming to school in smelly clothes, having random bruises appearing each week, looks of malnourishment, change of bruise stories, etc. are all tell-tale signs that maybe there's a bigger issue going on in the home than meets the eye. I have a passion for Social Work and working with children and adults who have been affected by alcohol and substance abuse is where I want to spend most of my time, so this book really hit me in my emotions and pulled at my heart strings. This book has opened up my eyes to see the cruelty that we face in this world and that nobody is safe, not even a small child. If nothing else, this book at least has made me want to be nicer to children and to make sure I can identify signs of abuse and neglect in children. This book makes me so much more excited to be a helper after reading it because I'm going to strive to get victims of this severe abuse out of the home and into a safe area. Also, this book makes…

The protagonists of the book are Finley, Russ, and Erin. The antagonists are the Irish Mob and the bullies at the school they attend. The protagonists are all static characters because they undergo no change. The main antagonist in the story is a 19 year old senior who makes moves at Erin and constantly bullies Finley. The story depicts him dropping Finely as he proceeds to punch Erin in the nose. I can infer that the 19 year old senior thinks that due to his age and size, he can do what he wants while disregarding the feelings of others. The character I feel I relate to the most is Erin because she doesn’t give up and won’t back down from any challenge.…

    The Outsiders Summary

    • 588 Words

It contains very strong theme about dysfunctional family, use of drugs and crime. I guess the board of education was afraid that the students will imitate the events in the book. However, I understand why they decided to re-allow it in schools. The author, who wrote this book around our age really wanted to deliver that we can all live together in peace and conflict only bring more conflict. Although the family in the Outsiders wasn’t the best family you could ask for, they had so much love inside them they didn’t actually portray to each other. They just didn’t know the right way to express it. I would rate this book 4/5 because of the effectiveness of the author trying to deliver her message in a coherent manner. I highly recommend all teenagers to read this book. Overall, I think this compelling story will grasp even the most reluctant readers thanks to the deep bond of sympathy. There is also a movie “The Outsiders”, although I happen to feel that it fails to deliver the strong message as realistic and in sequence as the…

He seems to have only been the guy that avoiding all the pain. Until the two protagonists in the story, beat him up, almost like if that soldier had come home to find him in bed with his wife. For the short story, I could see the boys really standing up to the bully and beating him up in the middle. Then to find out the bully's father had passed. Then after, possibly befriend him and they all join and carry on in their father's footsteps.…

I am reading the book “True Notebooks” by Mark Salzman. It is about a teacher who teaches a writing class in a juvenile detention center. The student wrote about their life and some of the things they wrote were interesting and deep. For example one of the students wrote about hate and how it been through his life “hate taught me how to speak, hate taught me how to love, and eventually hate taught me how to hate. This kid also said that his partner was the person who changed his life because he taught him how to speak, love, and hate.…

The first reason it should be read is it portrays the life of kids that are around our age. It’s a eye opener, what I mean by this is it shows you that not only you are going through hardships in your life, which can be very relatable to some students. For example one connection students could make is they might have been beaten just like Johnny was by a 2 x 4. Another connection students could make is to Ponyboy, he lost his parents so he lives with…

I would recommend this book to anyone in high school. It shows that you need to think before you speak. It also shows that you never know what people are going through, until you step into their shoes. Words and actions really do hurt people more than some may think.
