Understanding Health and Safety in the Workplace
There a lot of rules in place in any working environment to keep customers and workers safe at work. They vary from a wide range of rules that the company has to follow and it is essential for a company to comply with the rules to prevent accidents and then law suits. All types of companies and buildings need to follow these rules and will be looking at a manufacturing factory called Uniq and a service provider which is Radbrook College.
Key Features; * Health + Safety at work Act 1974 – This is the main feature of Health and safety at work. It is the basic understanding that companies have a duty of care to protect their employees and anyone that is connected to the business such as customers and visitors. They need to make sure anyone’s welfare is protected and that the company trains staff and keeps them under supervision to stay save at work. It is much more necessary for Uniq to revise these laws as they work in a lot more dangerous environment than at Radbrook College. There are employee duties to make sure that they complete the regulations in the act and make sure that they work in a safe area by cleaning up spillages for example. * Fire and Safety Regulations 1988 – In any building or property owned by the company there needs to be clear and designated fire points and fire doors. These routes need to be clear and will have yellow hatching on the floor around the exit to make sure it is not obstructed. Both of my companies need to follow these as it can be very dangerous and could cause closure to the building if not. They also need to have the correct fire equipment such as fire extinguishers in the right places and fire towels in the kitchen. There also needs to be fire alarms around both places. * Control of Substances Hazardous to Health 2002 – This is another large section of health and safety and involves all the different types of substances that are used at any place.
