It requires a lot of hit energy to transform a given quantity of water in to vapor. This energy is called enthalpy of vaporization. While water evaporates the temperature around it drops. We see this phenomenon in action in leaving things, they use sweat to low their temperature and also in many manmade tools. What is evaporation cooling? Evaporation cooling is a device that cools air by combining the natural process of water evaporation with an air moving system. Evaporative cooling is different from usual air conditioning method which use vapor-compression. Evaporation cooling works by employing waters large enthalpy of vaporization. Dry and hot air is pulled through very wet pads. The air gets moist and its temperature drops and then it gets blown back out. The temperature of dry air can be dropped significantly, through this process using less energy than refrigeration. In dry weathers, evaporation cooling of air has also the benefit of adding moisture in the air making it more comfortable for people. Evaporating cooling will not work well in places with high humidity because if there is too much vapor in the air it will be hard to add even more. The difference between dry bulb and wet bulb is used to measure the humidity.

Why is the wet bulb temperature always lower than the dry bulb temperature? The dry bulb is a regular thermometer. The whet bulb is a thermometer with the bulb wrapped in a wet cloth that is called a sock. The mare dry the air is the faster the water from the sock will evaporate and the temperature in the bulb will drop. The more humidity in the air, the slower the evaporation and th temperature in the bulb will also drop less. There is a chart that calculates the humidity when you know the difference in temperature between the dry bulb and the wet bulb.
