E-learning: Social, professional, legal and ethical issues:
E-Learning is the utilization of data or information and computer technologies to make learning experiences. E-learning can deliver that education which always cannot be taught by conventional methods and throughout a lifetime. E-Learning helps people to learn at their place and time of choosing (Horton, 2006). Over the years, E-learning has evolved from teaching Life-sciences to Spirituality. In the beginning days of E-Learning, it received mixed reviews as to whether bringing in computers and technology into the classroom would benefit the learners or that the human touch, that some learners is still required and the use of E-Learning would remove it. For example; E-learning is not only cost effective but it saves time. It removes the travelling costs and the cost of printing the learning materials. Also it reduces time, so not only does online learning help save money but increases workplace productivity. Another remarkable achievement by E-learning is that learning can take place anytime and anywhere. Most classroom training operates during normal working hours. By providing a medium for E-learning, learners can now access their courses 24/7 at their own ease and comfort making learners relaxed and more effective learning takes places. Online learning also helps learners manage their subjects and its difficulty discreetly and at their own pace guaranteeing a thorough understanding of their learning materials and modules. But a computer and technology can’t do everything and the human element is required to some level thus there is a need for practical training. Performing all duties in accordance to the code of conduct is a must. One of the major concerns is who has the right to the information, who can control, audit and seek this information an individual enters on online learning websites. Performing all obligations in understanding to the set of accepted rules is an absolute necessity. One of the significant concerns is who has the privilege to the data, who can control, review and look for this data an individual enters on internet learning sites. For it is not only students and clients who have a right to confidentiality but also the teachers who require their privacy. Information such as marks of students, passwords, materials for learning purposes etc. can be misused and this can be a breach to confidentiality (Santy-Tomlinson and Smith, 2007). Plagiarism also is a form of inappropriate professional conduct. Plagiarism involves using a colleague’s work and claiming it be one’s own work. Unoriginality includes utilizing an associate's work and guaranteeing it be one's own particular work (Ercegovac and Richardson, 2004). The only way to tackle this problem is by maintaining a certain system or software that detects such an act and immediately identifies the perpetrators. This is also considered an ethical issue because not only is an individual being unprofessional but it also violates the author and his work (Liu, n.d.). Another myth is that all traditional
