Dress Code Should Be Allowed In Schools
Should students be required to wear a dress code if the school enforces one? Many schools around the country enforce strict dress code policies to decrease distraction from the learning environment and prepare students for the reality of having a dress code in a job. Most states have set up laws to allow the school board to set the dress code and its limitations, as long as it does not invade the student’s constitutional rights. People who agree with the dress code policies think that today’s students abuse the privilege of no dress code by wearing inappropriate clothing and having a dress code makes clothes shopping a lot easier and cheaper if it is limited. I do not think it is right to take away a student’s self expression and that they should be allowed to wear what they want to a certain extent. For example at my school we are required to wear a collared shirt and either khaki or black pants with a belt, this kind of dress code and other stricter one are the kinds I think should not be allowed because it gives little to no room for the student to personalize their outfit to their own liking. The care the opposing side has is appreciative and understanding to decrease behavior issues amongst students and make school shopping a little easier, but being a student who has a dress code, I do not like it. For the most part students know what to wear and what not to wear at school, and if they do not or are immature, then you should not punish the whole student body, but simply explain right from wrong to the few students who do not understand fully. I think combining these two positions can help come to one solution that benefits
