Don T Die: A Narrative Fiction
The note had been stuck to Eric's windshield when he arrived at his car that morning. At first he thought it was nothing more than a piece of junk mail left by some individual attempting to promote one thing or another. However, upon closer inspection, it became quite clear that the note was left specifically for Eric himself. His name had been scribbled across the paper, and so he was quick to lift his wiper and pluck the note from his frosted window. He had to wonder how it even managed to survive the night considering it had snowed nonstop throughout the evening. The edges were soaked which made it slightly more difficult to peel apart, but he managed to get it open without causing significant damage.
While finding a personal note attached to his car was in Eric's opinion, peculiar, it was nothing compared to the message itself. 03/05/14 It was nothing more than a passed date that had been written down in horribly messy handwriting. The department was already busy and officers walked in every which direction. Eric quickly made his way across the floor to where his desk sat waiting for him. He was already mentally making a list of all the things he had to do and it was giving him a headache just thinking about it. "Hey, Nickson!" a familiar voice called his name and Eric looked up to see a fellow detective, Rodriguez walking his way. "What's up?" he asked once Rodriguez was close enough to hear without being forced to shout. "Did you see the news this morning?" Upon asking the question, his face turned a little gloomy and Eric couldn't help but think it was bad news. "No...Why? What happened?" Rodriguez breathed in deep, as though he was bracing himself. "Your cop killer might be back. Last night a cop from the 120th Precinct was found in Jackson Hights. Same
