Differences Between The Giver Book And Movie
In "The Giver", a few similarities I saw were the characters, the setting, and the plot. Additional similarities that stuck out were when Jonas ran away with Gabe, when Jonas transferred memories to Gabe, Jonas seeing beyond, and when Jonas's father killed one of the twins. A few differences I saw between the book and the movie were the ages of Jonas, Fiona, Lily, And Asher in the book Jonas, Fiona, and Asher are 12 but in the movie they are 18, in the book Lily is 8 but in the movie she is 9. Another difference I saw between the book and the movie was with the Chief Elder in the book, you don't really hear much from the Chief Elder but the when you watch the movie 30 or 40% of the time you get recognition of the Chief

The novel The Giver by Lois Lowry and the movie The Giver directed by Philip Noyce are based on a perfectly enclosed nirvana, taking place in a futuristic setting where choices are not yours. It is also thought as a Utopia, an endless party and everlasting harmony. However paradise, in this case, is not perfect, but who knows better? One similarity between the book and the movie is the main characters, Jonas, who was able to go to Elsewhere with his youthful companion, Gabriel.…

You’re eleven years old. All of the pain, fear, war, and hatred of the world has been eliminated from society. Everyone looks and acts the same, and your profession is chosen for you based on your abilities; at age twelve. The Giver, written by Lois Lowry, is a fascinating story about a different type of society and learning the secrets behind it. The movie of the same name directed by Phillip Noyce, is creative, but showed some very disappointing changes from the book. All in all, the book is far more preferable because the plot is far more exciting, the characters are developed well, and the creativeness is more descriptive than that of the movie.…

One thing in particular that the book does much better is making use of complex metaphors and themes, such as: the river for life, and oneness with nature, that string themselves together as you turn each page of the book, while in the movie the metaphors and symbolism are represented in a much different way through picture. In the book, both themes regarding the river are very vivid and clear, as they use strong imagery of nature to draw pictures in the minds of the readers. In the movie both themes are represented and referred to much less because of the lack of narration.…

Another one is, Jonas lied to his parents when they asked Jonas if he understood why the word love wasn’t used anymore. In the book Jonas and Giver come up with a plan on how Jonas can escape from the community the same thing happened in the movie. In both the movie and book a the same tragic event occurred, Jonas witnessed his dad killing a newborn because of that Jonas kidnapped Gabriel and ran away from the community. For this assignment I watched the movie The Giver because although I had read the book before I didn’t actually remember much about it. Even though the book is better than the movie, I actually really enjoyed the movie and found it extremely interesting. It all begins with the memories from the past were being erased and a boundary being set to keep the memories away. Everyday everyone would mandatorily have to get injected even though they didn’t know why, they would happen because they found to be a normal routine embedded into their culture. Like we discussed in class, culture is learned and in this particular movie they have learned to not have emotional and they are given a designated career/role in society once they graduate.…

Both "But you know, happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light." and "Harry, did you put your name into the goblet of fire?" are both overused quotes that Harry Potter book fans can easily recognize. However, both of these quotes are either eliminated or butchered in the transition from the book series to the movie adaptations, like many other aspects of the book series. In the novels, the characters experience great character development, and their background stories and relationships shape the story. However, the movies eliminate these characteristics, resulting in the creation of an entire, separate entity from the book series. A multitude of characters are robbed of their dynamic selves…

Although I enjoyed the book and movie, there are some noticeable differences seen between each. It was actually one of the best books I've ever read. This year, a movie was made on the story. The story follows Jonas who gets all these memories, and he realizes all the dark and deadly truths about the communities secret past. The movie sort of focuses more on the romantic aspect of the story; the love between Rosemary and Jonas. The book does more to capture the unconditional love Jonas had for Gabe, the baby that staying with Jonas's family. Taylor Swift, who plays Fiona, did not make a significant role in the movie. The movie also focused too much on Meryl Streep and her role as the leader or the community, which is probably because of her…
