Destination Homebound Waking up, I feel the burning sensation of what feels like fine needles pricking at my eyeballs. I blink them a couple more times before hitting the snooze button on my loud horn shrieking alarm clock. As I lay my head back down to get just ten more minutes, a fuzzy feeling tickles my stomach. The excitement of me going home today to see my family races through my head, along with that, the slight twinge of a headache from the lack of sleep counteracts that feeling. I’m tired from packing at the last minute. My bed feels so warm and welcoming. It doesn’t want to let me go. Evident of the three layers of heavy blankets that lie on my body and entrap me, hesitant to let me go. The horn sounds again. It’s time to get up, no hesitating this time. I force the arms of sleep off of me and feel the cool early morning air whiff across my skin. Ugh, I wish I could get just two more hours of shut eye and I would be good, but it’s that time and I sit up. Eyes still shut sitting in my bed, I think about seeing my family and I get a burst of energy. It’s been two long years since the last time I’ve seen them. I’m going home! I walk across my room in the darkness of dawn and flick on the light. Smelling the dewy, clean, fresh air breeze by through the half open bedroom window, I hear the crickets squeaking and the birds talking. At least somebody else is up beside me on this Saturday morning. I grab my shower cap, bath towel and iPhone and head to the shower. I put on iTunes and start the bathwater. Putting on my shower cap, I’m dancing with excitement now! Twenty minutes have passed and I step out into a steamed-filled bathroom. I breathe in the aroma filled air of mango. Feeling clean and refreshed as I open the door, I pause for a second to breathe in the mixture of mango bathroom air and the crisp dawn breeze that hits me all at once. Today is actually starting off on a good note. ITunes is still flowing from my iPhone as I lather on my mango lotion

What’s better to chill out a hot summer’s day than something sweet and cool? No, I am not talking about a Popsicle. I am not talking about an ice cream cone, either. I am not even talking about iced tea or lemonade. It is something better than all of those, and it doesn’t even have all the sneaky calories of those other tasty treats! The answer to the question is simple. Have you guessed it? It is a cherry.…

Ordinarily, the sun’s light captured everything in sight like a mother hugging a child and giving it warmth. From the dark oak bed, I rose because of the unpleasant bites of mosquitoes. The Civil War is always on my mind. After a most successful battle yesterday when our soldiers all left home, relief and happiness came to mind, for there was a chance that we would win. Consequently, that would explain the surge of energy running through my body after waking up. Starting off with breakfast, I walked to my kitchen, the wood underneath my feet start to creak. The closer I walked to the kitchen, the warmer and cozier the atmosphere became. My servant, Julia, prepared breakfast for me today similar to many other days, I always wonder what will breakfast will be. Fresh eggs from my brown feathered hens were soft surrounded by creamy goat cheese, and well-cooked toast was on the plate this morning. Enjoying the meal is a morning ritual,…

In the wee hours of the morning my life is the embodiment of a living, breathing dichotomy. Awakening with a wry little smile on my face, I knew I had dreamed of the river, big brown trout, and sweet 3wt bamboo rods. My body screams – “Where’s the coffee”, while my brain questions the sanity of getting up this early on a Saturday. Oblivious to the cacophony, the hairs on the back of my neck tingle. Betraying logic, they forewarn that this pre-dawn moment was the premonition of a great day ahead.…

I awoke to the sounds of birds singing, and the light shining through the window of my bedroom. I opened my eyes and stretched my pale arms towards the ceiling. As I put on my slippers, I thought to myself, “today is going to be a good day.” And went downstairs to get breakfast. I hummed to the tune of one of the many songs I had heard on the radio as I made myself a bowl of Frosted Flakes.…

The morning sun hits me through the windows and I force my eyes open only to see my beloved beside me. His pale face contains a pair of smiling eyes and saliva that’s coming out of the tip of his lips. I couldn't resist but to place a gentle kiss on him while removing the sticky water off of him. Soon I slowly pull myself up in a sitting position next to him. Trying not to wake him up, I turn my head to the panda holding the clock that is showing 7:38 in the morning. I massage my sore arms as I move quietly out of the room. The bright sun lightens the living room as I close the room door behind me. What a great start in the morning with the warm sun shining. I quickly washed my hands in the kitchen sink, which is right next to the living room. Then I…

That first breath of humid tropical air in the morning a refreshing change from the dry mountain air of home. All the memories of the plane trip and the many wasted classroom hours spent day dreaming of the fun these eight days would be packed with, all came flooding back in that one moment. It was incredibly energizing, in those few seconds I could feel myself become almost giddy with anticipation and I was still barely even awake. I could tell it was still early in the morning, but the sun was already peeking over the sea casting wild colors in the sky, the thought of drifting back to sleep was a joke. I was awake now, and probably would be for the next eight days.…

My eyes and ears open to the sound of chirping birds outside the dew covered window and my alarm buzzing behind my head. I sense that my room is still messed up from the night before after I threw my gym bag down from practice yesterday night. I stretch my arms and legs as I prepare to get out of my warm bed. I was so sore from practice it felt as if my muscles turned of and I couldn’t move for the whole time. I started to get the feeling back into my body and I put my hand against the cold alarm clock as I turn it off but it continues to buzz louder and louder. My knees crack, as I rest my feet onto my soft, cream colored floor. As I walk into my bathroom, sore from the night before, I stumble…

“When you smoke herb, it reveals yourself to you,” is a famous quote of the pothead and marvelous musician Bob Marley. He felt as though marijuana helped tune in with your inner being. I believe cannabis that cannabis does this too and therefore have become a habitual marijuana consumer. Being in tune with ones inner being is important, yet not the reason that I smoke cannabis. The cannabis plant is beautiful, from the leaf to the buds you smoke. I love the ‘highs’ from smoking marijuana, and last but not least, I love how I can function while ‘high’. The summary is that little nuggets of joy have been crucial in making me who I am now, and I am grateful for everything marijuana has brought.…

The alarm sounds I open my eyes excited to start a new day. I roll my covers back and inhale filling my lungs with the aroma of bacon, my mouth waters as I realize that my sweet wife has risen early to make me breakfast. I stand, but not too fast as I despise the feeling of being dizzy. I slip on my fuzzy slippers that my daughter got me for Christmas the previous year, and drowsily stumble to the bathroom. I shed my robe and rotate the handles of the shower clockwise allowing the water to pour out of the faucet. The steam starts to rise off of the floor of the shower and with a quick swipe of the hand I know that the water is perfect. The water washes away the morning drowsiness and in turn allows me the solitude and relaxation I need before starting another busy day. I dry off as I step out of the shower wrapping the moist towel around my waist again the smooth salty smell of bacon fills the air. I grab my tooth brush and apply the cinnamon flavored tooth paste to the bristles, slowly and then swiftly giving my mouth the fresh start it deserves.…
