Death Crawl: Facing The Giants
After watching the clip “ Death Crawl” from the movie Facing the Giants by Alex Kendrick has many things people can get from it, but three of the most important things were, never give up, don’t doubt, and encouragement can help people be successful. First of all, one can overcome obstacles by not giving up. In the video the coach was constantly yelling at Broc to not give up and to give him all he’s got. Not giving up is important because it helps us keep an open mind about what we can do. Next, overcoming obstacles will be easier if we do not doubt. In the video Broc was saying that the team was not going to win the game. Doubting can keep people from reaching their goals because they will think that they can’t do it so they will not even

There are numerous reasons why people should overcome their challenges including: thinking positive, not giving up, and getting support from other people instead of avoiding them according to “Facing the Giants” by Alex Kendrick, the director. Overcoming obstacles is to master, prevail over, or surmount something that is difficult. For instance, to conquer a challenge people need to think positively and have an optimistic attitude. In accordance with the video, Brock, the football player, says, “I’m gonna give you my best” (Kendrick). In the article, “The Winning Edge,” the author, Peter Doskoch, explains the reasons to persevere. When you start something, don’t stop until you reach success. Thomas Edison said, “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” (Doskoch, Pg. 161, Paragraph 3). Being successful doesn’t pay off if it’s easy. Some will give up because “it’s too hard.” Isn’t that where the joy of success comes from? If it’s easy, it’s not worth it. You also have to realize that nobody is perfect, no matter how hard they try to be. “The Winning Edge,” tells us how there is always more room for improvement. We are all human, and it is natural for us to make a couple mistakes here and there. The important thing is that we learn from our mistakes. Another point that “The Winning Edge” points out is that we should all learn to like what we do. When we make a crappy mistake and take a wrong turn in our lives, make the most out of it. Doskoch mentions that “Perseverance...can itself foster…

In order succeeded I had to try, to really work, and while that might not be factual for every scenario, without an attempt nothing would ever be accomplished. By living in dread of the outcome of any situation, the situation is not altered. I have come to the conclusion that trying is not always about succeeding; it is about finding your passion and pursuing…

Sometimes I doubt myself with my school work, and just end up not doing it because I think what's the point if i'm going to fail? Beatrice taught me that failure is essential to succeed. Failure allows us to learn from our mistakes and discover ourselves in the process. Many people would be overwhelmed with fear when faced with a task of jumping down from a rooftop especially when you don't know where you would fall or how deep the fall is. However, we can overcome our many fears as proven to us by Beatrice, when she took that step to jump into the unknown. "…

This quote can be applied to many different circumstances in your life. This is why I believe it stands out so much to me. When I first read this quote I thought about football, but then I started thinking about it in a more broad perspective. If you apply it to your job, family, sports, etcetera, it all comes back to what the quote clearly states, no matter what the situation you always have a chance to succeed. Even when you think you've hit rock bottom, if you work to better yourself and your circumstances then you have succeeded. I also see it as when others think you've failed, you can truly judge yourself on how you respond. I always judged success on winning or…

    Obstacles In Volleyball

Obstacles are placed in our way to see if what we want is worth fighting for. I was eight years old when my best friend and I were sitting out in the front yard when a young man came up to us. After introducing himself, he asked us if we played sports, and at a young age, I expressed him that I wished to play volleyball on my school team when I was older. Even now, I reflect on that conversation and contemplate on how long I have had this dream to play on a volleyball team. Little did I realize my journey to playing competitive volleyball would be one with disappointments, obstacles, and a discovery of my abilities.…

I used to believe the best way to avoid failure was to quit. Giving up before falling short meant never having to worry about losing or appearing incompetent. By insisting it was not worth my time to try, I could dissociate from my failures and blame them on my lack of interest or the activity’s low level of importance. This mindset went unchallenged throughout elementary and middle school when many of my chosen pastimes required minimal skill. It was not until high school that I began to feel uneasy about my lack of effort.…

    Certainty and Doubt

When Phelps said that we need to have an “absolute sense of certainty,” he meant a setting your mind to it mentality. If you can imagine it then you can do it. This however, is not healthy and must be counteracted by Russell’s statement by always having “some measure of doubt.” When the two are together and balanced, a healthy state of being is created, in which a person would always have confidence, but their doubt would drive them to work harder in order to succeed. This is seen often in the world of sports. Right before a big match, many players will do something such as listen to music or pump each other up before the game. This action rids the mind of negative thoughts and doubts. Of course it doesn’t create a complacent state of mind where a guaranteed victory is ensured, but it creates a healthy balance of doubt and optimism that makes players efficient athletes.…

I believe that if you have self-determination then there is no such thing as failure, only improvements. This means that if I work hard enough and put my mind to it, I can do it. Possibilities are endless with self-determination.…
