Pros and Cons of Spanking
Spanking, an action caused by a slap with one's open hand or a flat object, especially on the buttocks as a punishment. Many believe spanking is a very controversial issue, to spank or not to spank. Let us look at the pros and cons of spanking to see what you think you should do for your child later on when you have kids.
Pros to spanking; when spanking a child correctly, this can really be an effective and safe means for parents to discipline their children. When it comes to disciplining children, it is important for parents to do everything as gently and kindly as they can. In fact, many studies have revealed that the more parents spank their children, the more possible children are to hit their parents. This act will actually put them in danger for some problems later in their life. Physical punishment can send mixed messages to a child and reinforce violent behavior to be a form of punishment that is acceptable. Spanking children also has potential long-term effects on many children. This can trigger aggression, misbehavior, violence or even criminal behavior. This may also cause psychological problems to children. Spanking children is supposed to stop children’s bad behavior, but various studies implied that spanking only does the opposite. Research states that children who were spanked feel less attached to their parents and less trusting of them. The more the child was spanked, the less close the parent and child relationship was.
My stand on spanking is that I was spanked as a child, and when my parents spanked me after I did something wrong I learned from my mistake. I had more respect for them after they spanked me; I knew that they were just looking out for me, to make sure I knew right from wrong. I think parents should spank their kids as a form of punishment; it’s fast and effective in my opinion. I think whenever I have kids I will probably spank them if they act up. Along with reasoning with your child of why they deserve a spanking and then proceeding with the spanking, it is a very good discipline tool to use with your
