When I first walked into the band room, the noise in the room sounded like utter chaos. Every student in the room was toning their instruments all by themselves. Dr. Miedem just stood in the front of the room and let the musicians tune the instruments without guiding …show more content…
My guess this was a piece that the band would perform or the have performed. With this piece of music, Dr. Miedem discussed the A major, C major, and A minor chords throughout the song. With these chords, he stated they were the arrival point of the pieces stanzas. Then, the band dived into their next pieces: Arnold II and IV. Next, the band pulled of the music for Ave Maria. But, Dr. Miedem took that time to do the announcements for the day.
Finally, the band began to practice their last piece of music. They pulled out December Dance arranged by Boysen. Dr. Miedem had the band start at measure 43. For this piece, the percussion section had to readjust a lot. But, the band did not sit still. Dr. Miedem worked with the french horns until the percussion was ready. Once they were ready, I could hear why it took the percussion section some time to get ready. They had some cool percussion. Between the sandpaper blocks, bongos, triangle, and many more percussion instruments, I was focused on the percussion section trying to guess the instruments because they sound so cool.
I fully enjoyed observing the Concert Band, and see another side to the music that is made. Sometime I wish I had taken up an instrument to join a band. However, I probably would have hurt what ever band I was in, so I just take pleasure in listening to the music they
