Concert Report
The concert that I attended was the University Symphony Orchestra presented by the University of Louisville School of Music. The production featured 4 different works of music: "Spring" from The Four Seasons, Op. 8 by Antonio Vivaldi, Fantasy for Trombone and Orchestra, Op. 42 by Paul Creston, Flute Concerto in D Major, Op. 283 by Carl Reinecke, and Symphonic Dances from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein. The first piece of music was Spring from The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi. This work is a violin concerto. The first movement was in allegro and began in the major key. It started out in a monophonic texture and with the theme of the piece. The pitch and tempo of the work is designed to bring about feelings of springtime. The notes are high in pitch and very short in duration. It could be described as "fleeting". The theme reappears, so the piece could be in ritornello form. The second movement was largo e pianissimo. It starts off in a minor key, and there is a definite ground bass throughout the movement with a melody of higher-pitched notes above it. The tempo is much slower, mostly because of the presence of the ground bass, and the ground bass has the same recurring theme over and over again. The third movement is back in allegro, and the tempo is faster. The beginning of this movement sounds like a combination of movements I and II, with the deep, slow tempo of the ground bass of II with the light-hearted, distinct, "fleeting" tempo and pitch of I. Overall in movement III, the key alternates between major and minor. The key is in major when the ground bass leaves and transitions to minor when the ground bass reemerges. The second piece of music was the Fantasy for Trombone and Orchestra, Op. 42 by Carl Reinecke. The first movement begins in minor key with a moderately fast tempo. The sound and texture of the music brings about the feelings that you 're listening to a storm. The first movement features the orchestra and trumpet

The first piece was called Quintet in g minor, Op. 56, No. 2. It was by Franz Danzi. The first movement was an Allegretto. It was in a major mode and in triple meter. It started with polyphonic texture. The flute and oboe were playing a portion of the melody and the clarinet was playing another melody, both over the bassoon and horn. There were portions of the movement in which the flute would play a melody above the rest of the instruments in homophonic texture. This gave the piece a light, fluttering sound. The second movement was an Andante. It started with the horn and flute playing with monophonic texture. This created a calm sound that brought on a feeling warmth indoors on a cold winter night. It was in a minor mode and in triple meter. The middle of the movement included a great deal of dissonance and had an atonal rhythm that felt a bit unsettling. The end of the movement had the same calm melody as the beginning. It…

The first piece was Intègrales by Edgard Varèse (1883-1965). Edgard Victor Achille Charles Varèse was a French-born composer who spent the greater part of his career in the United States. He was innovator in 20th-century techniques of sound production. According to the www.allmusic.com, his concept of "organized sound" led to many experiments in form and texture. He was constantly on the lookout for new sound sources, and was one of the first to extensively explore percussion, electronics, and taped sounds. Intègrales was composed in 1925. I think this piece is very modern, and is a work for wind, brass, and percussion. I am not really enjoying this piece because it is a little noisy for me. The second piece is Coptic Light, and the composer…

In Beethoven’s Symphony no. 5 in C minor the first movement is called Allergro con brio and it is in sonata form. Throughout this theme he shifts the motive to different pitches and instruments. The second theme is in E flat major and starts with a varied basic motive of short-short-short-long-long-long. The horns starts a new melody that is calm sounding compared to the opening of this movement. In this movement you can hear horns, some woodwind instruments and some string instruments. American Overture for Band, written in 1956, is Joseph Jenkins’ most popular piece in the wind band repertoire characterized by its “driving rhythms, sweeping melodies, strong accents, and virtuosic demands”. It has become one of the most recognizable band repertoire pieces since its debut. The piece has also become one of the most performed pieces from its time period. Written in a five-year window of American Overture for Band, Hindemith’s Symphony in Bb (1951), and Howard Hanson’s Chorale and Alleluia (1952) have also captured the same acknowledgements.…

My desire to be a part of the Tri-M Music Honor Society is driven by a passion for performing music. Four years ago, with very little experience under my belt regarding music, I joined the Dracut High School Marching Band, not knowing the difference between the xylophone and the marimba. Little did I know that playing and performing music for myself and others would lead to who I am as a person now.…

On Saturday 28th I went to The Globe Café in Coral Gables, I got there with my brother exactly at 8pm and sat on a high table just in front of the band. We got there just before they started playing and stayed for the whole first session that was just over an hour. The Café was real nice, It wasn’t far from where I live and there was no traffic coming in, it is situated in a very nice part of Coral Gables just two blocks from Miracle Mile, that was perfect because parking was amazing, I parked in front of the place. The Café was real nice, it had a bar and about 11 eleven tables (later when I went to the bathroom I realized it had a whole other bar and lounge area on the back). The Globe was very pleasant, the bar area…

It was Monday, November 17 cold and snowy outside Ophelia Paris Concert Hall, Truman State University but inside it was all warmth and light as Elaine AuBuchon started the Double Reed Recital. Having not been to any actual classical music concert, I was excited to hear the talent that we have in our campus. I took it upon myself to go with an open mind, without having any previous predispositions that would affect my reaction to the concert. I just wanted to go in there, not knowing anything about the concert, and see what I hear in the music. This concert was open to anyone and free admission. The program presented a variety of styles…

On May 9, 2012 at 8:00 pm, I attended a Recital Concert at The Juilliard School for Dance, Drama and Music. The performance was conducted by Daniel Taubernheim on the trumpet and Trevor Nuckols, on the horn. They were both students of Raymond Mase, who is the Chairman of the Brass department and Julie Landsman, who recently retired from the position in 2011. She then became a teacher of music that was also, the former Principal Horn of the Metropolitan Opera. The instruments that were used, the trumpet and the horn are considered part of the Brass family in music.…

The first group, the Jazz Ensembles, was led by Greg Wheeler. The first piece was “Lost Mind” the stand out of this piece was the Alto Saxophonist, Kyle Merrill. He stood out and grabbed my attention more so than the other soloist during this piece. His solo had a rich sound, along with a smooth and swingy rhythm. The piece over all had a rhythm that was easy to tap your foot to and I was doing so throughout the piece. It was a bright sounding piece and it started the concert off on the right foot.…

I attended Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons concert on Sunday April 17, 2011 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church performed by the SCC chamber orchestra. Vivaldi was a baroque composer and the Four Seasons is considered to be a great masterwork in all Western Art. The Four Seasons is a series of four concertos; Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Each season contains 3 movements and was composed in 1725, in a set of 12 concertos entitled “Il cimento dell’armonia e dell’inventione” (The test of Harmony and Invention). Each concerto is in the distinct form of fast-slow-fast movements. The Four Seasons is a set of four solo concertos for violin, string orchestra and basso continuo. The texture of each concerto resembles each of the presented season. This piece by Vivaldi is considered program music. Program music is instrumental music associated with a story, scene, poem, or idea that is often found in the romantic period.…
