CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
Concept - A concept is a generalized idea of a thing or class of things.
Concept vs. Idea It is roughly synonymous with the word 'idea' but it is a little more specific. An idea can just spring to mind out of nowhere but generally a 'concept' is based on observation of real phenomena. I say 'a little more specific' because both the word 'idea' and 'concept' cover a lot of ground and are used in many ways. An example of a concept in Biology would be evolution
Concept vs. Theory A concept is a general idea. Scientifically, a theory is an explanation of phenomena with significant evidence behind it.
Framework
- A framework is simply the structure of the research idea or concept and how it is put together.
Conceptual Framework A conceptual framework elaborates the research problem in relation to relevant literature. This section may summarize the major (dependent and independent) variables in your research. The framework may be summarized in a schematic diagram that presents the major variables and their hypothesized relationships.
The CF should cover the following: * Existing research and its relevance for your topic * Key ideas or constructs in your approach * Identify and discuss the variables related to the problem. * Conceptualized relationships between variables * Independent variables (presumed cause)
Dependent variables (presumed effect)
Intervening variables (other variables that influence the effect of the independent variable) * Present a schematic diagram of the relationships between key variables and discuss the relationship of the elements/variables * Statement of hypotheses
