-GOAL #1- To establish and maintain a safe, healthy, learning environment
-FUNCTIONAL AREAS- safe, healthy, learning environment

SAFE- To maintain a safe environment for infants I make sure that all small toys and objects that could cause an infant to choke are removed from the area. Toys with sharp, pointed edges should be removed as well. I always give infants my constant supervision because they are dependent on me for their every need.
Mobile infants have just begun to walk and crawl. They are curious and want to explore their surroundings. It is of important that their surroundings are safe. I do that by making sure that all electrical outlets are covered and cords are both out of sight and out of reach. Toys are at the mobile infants level and appropriate for their age and stage of development.
To maintain a safe environment for toddlers can be quite a challenge. They think they can do most anything at this age. I make sure that their toys are developmentally appropriate and encourage their curiosity. Toddlers require constant supervision to ensure complete safety.

HEALTHY- In order for infants to have a healthy environment they must be in an area that is virtually germ free. I wash my hands constantly. I also wash my hands before and after preparing food and after diaper changes. I also wear gloves while changing diapers and sanitize the changing area after each use. All toys are sanitized daily as well. I also always make sure to practice universal precautions.
To maintain a healthy environment for mobile infants, I make sure that their area is sanitized daily. I sanitize and wash the walls, tables, chairs, sleeping mats and toys. It is essential for them to eat properly, so I provide healthy, wholesome foods, drinks and snacks.
To maintain a healthy environment, as with all ages, I make sure the area is sanitized daily. I assist them with washing their hands before and after each meal, after playing outside and after using the bathroom. I also make sure they have healthy foods, drinks and snacks throughout the day.

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT- Infants learn early on through books, play and song. And through play they learn eye to hand coordination. I spend a large amount of one on one time with infants. This closeness makes them feel safe and secure.
Mobile infants love to explore. They begin to learn so many different things. Such as, tastes, smells, sounds and textures. I make sure that they have many exciting and interesting things in which to explore. I read books, sing songs and play games with them as well. I always provide them with age appropriate learning materials.
Toddlers have a very short attention span, so they need to have numerous activities available to them. They learn by example, so I talk to them using please and thank you. They also learn from other children, so I try to encourage children to watch the other children while playing. Playing games is crucial for the development of coordination, balance and gross motor skills. I do this on a daily basis. We sing songs, read books and talk about shapes, colors, numbers and letters.

Part of my work is to ensure that the children in my care are allowed to develop these skills in a safe environment. At Westview I carry out day-to-day risk assessments for activities and excursions that each child participates in. These risk assessments look at both the spreading of infection amongst children and potential accidents, enabling children to develop more robust immune systems. As part of this I also ensure the children wash their hands after going to the toilet and eating as well as covering their mouths when sneezing and coughing.…

This is an important goal for the age group in my care because not only does it set the foundation for lifelong healthy habits but it helps keep the other children, their families, and the staff from getting sick. I start by first helping them to understand the different aspects of good health and nutrition. I regularly remind the children to wash their hands before and after specific instances, such as before eating, after blowing their nose or using the bathroom, and explain why it is important and then make sure to model this personally. Another way I help prevent the spread of illness is by washing and sanitizing toys, dramatic play clothing, and cots on a regular basis. I assist with daily health checks to look for any signs of abuse or various cold symptoms in order to take any needed steps of action. I also routinely incorporate music and read related topical stories to reinforce their understanding of healthy choices and good nutrition. The child care setting where I work uses CACFP guidelines that promote nutrition through the mass use of fresh fruits and vegetables and I always encourage the children to try foods they don’t perceive they’ll…

One of my goals is to promote safety and reduce all injuries in a preschool setting all day and every day. To establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I model safety practices and healthy routines in an environment that supports development and growth in these areas. My goal is to provide a clean healthy environment that meets each child’s physical needs. Making sure the classroom and playground are clean and safe at all times reduces the number of injuries of children while they are in my care. One of the ways I do this is by supervising children at all times. Making sure all outlets are covered so children can’t access them. I make sure inside as well as outside there is nothing children can harm themselves on such as sharp objects or small items they can choke on. I ensure that all chemicals and cleaning supplies are put away out of the reach of children or stored in locked cabinets. To establish and maintain a healthy environment is to prevent the spread of germs and promote healthy eating habits. Germs can be easily spread among the age group of children. One of the ways I promote a healthy environment is hand washing. I wash my hands and wear gloves before and after handling food, helping with toileting, changing diapers and cleaning noses. I have the children wash their hands during similar times and ensure that they do it properly. Paragraph 1.The first of the five rooms is for the infants. This room will offer various areas of play to help aid in the physical, cognitive and psychosocial areas of development. In this room there will be several different kinds of play mats and mobiles. These mats and mobiles will have various objects hanging from them that will be of different colors, textures, and make a variety of sounds. These will help the infants to practice sitting up, develop hand eye coordination, learn about cause and effect and encourage sound and texture discoveries (Guyton, 2011). The basic hygiene of this room is something that can become an issue. Because this is an infant room and infants spend the majority of their time on the floor it is absolutely necessary that this area be kept clean and as sanitary as possible. These extra precautions need to be taken not only on the floor and play areas but with the toys themselves, as babies tend to bring objects to their mouths.…
