Nordstrom and Forever 21 are retail stores that sell popular, trendy, fashionable clothing, accessories, and shoes. I shop at the Forever 21 and Nordstrom stores in Annapolis Mall. Many people enjoy shopping at both stores because of their trendy apparel. Since Forever 21 has inexpensive clothing, teenagers like to gravitate there. Nordstrom is a high end store that sells top of the line clothing and accessories. Older people like to shop at Nordstrom because it provides highquality apparel. Nordstrom focuses more on satisfying the customers and providing brand name clothing. Even though Forever 21 has nice clothing, I recommend shopping at Nordstrom because of the quality of their clothing, their outstanding customer service, and their pleasant atmosphere.
Nordstrom sells high quality clothing that customers are able to keep for years, but Forever 21 often sells clothing made of cheap materials that can only be worn a short time. If their clothing is not properly taken care of, the purchase will not last very long. Nordstrom allows customers to choose between large varieties of brand name clothing. Apparel from top designers can be purchased from Nordstrom, Forever 21 does not offer that. If you want the best out of your money I advise customers to purchase high quality apparel from Nordstrom.
Outstanding customer service is another reason to shop at Nordstrom, and poor customer service is another reason to skip shopping at Forever 21. At Nordstrom, They provide a variety of services including gift wrapping, layaway, and appropriate return policies. Employees also go out of their way to assist customers. At Forever 21, you have to approach sales representatives if you have an issue or want help. At Forever 21, customers are left to help themselves. You do not see many sales representatives walking around trying to assist customers. In addition, their return

The retail industry is rapidly changing due to technology advancements and consumer demand. Consumers have shifted to ecommerce spending rather than with brick and mortar stores. Nordstrom, a leader in the retail industry, is facing growth issues in retaining consumers under this transition. Despite this major shift in ecommerce spending, Nordstrom has been able to tap into the market by offering a seamless online shopping experience, similar to the experience customers receive in store. Bloomingdales and Macy’s, Nordstrom competitors, are also facing these issues but are less successful in adaptation. The overall trend will force expansion in their online presence, to mitigate the risk of market share loss. Amazon,…

Nordstrom’s ample understanding of consumer behavior has helped the company grow immensely over time. A main reason is Nordstrom’s philosophy. Nordstrom focuses on empowering the managers and sales force to make decisions that favor the customer, not the company. By focusing on the customer, they were able to retrieve information necessary to expand the business. For example, Nordstrom’s realization of a market for women’s clothing pushed them to expand beyond their small shoe store. They were able to be successful with this due to their marketing research on women and their understanding…

On behalf of everyone at Nordstrom, I am pleased to share with you our company’s 2007 performance and outlook for 2008 and beyond. Overall, we realized a number of top performances in 2007, thanks to the hard work of more than 55,000 Nordstrom employees. Let’s review the highlights: • Total sales increased 3.1% to a record high $8.8 billion and comparable sales increased 3.9% — our sixth consecutive year of same-store sales gains. • Improving store productivity resulted in a return on investment (ROIC) of 19.4%, and sales of $402 per square foot on a 52-week basis, our best performance ever. • Our SG&A rate (expenses as a percentage of net sales) improved for the seventh year in a row at 26.7%, improving by 9 basis points over last year. • Earnings Before Interest and Taxes (EBIT) were $1.247 billion this year, an improvement of 8.5% over last year. In total, 2007 was a year of good performance for our company. But 2007 was really a tale of two halves. In the first half, the industry was robust, our team executed well, and we experienced comparable store growth of 7.5%. Around mid-year, the market slowed dramatically and our comparable store sales growth was only 0.5%. While we managed our operating expenses well throughout the year, inventories increased in the third and fourth quarters, at about the same time the economy began to slow and sales softened. We addressed the inventory issues quickly and corrected many of them by the beginning of 2008. Thus, we believe we are positioned to perform well in what we expect to be a continued soft retail environment in 2008. Our focus remains on growing market share with our core customers. When we challenge ourselves to offer the best service and merchandise, we give the customer a reason to buy. We have one of the fastest inventory turns among our direct competitors and when we continue to flow in new…

Imagine the bustling of girls within a clothing store as they grab as many pieces as they can hold, to run into the fitting room, and return with the best choices, only to start the cycle over again. Yet, they don’t tire of it because the many different possibilities of seeing different combinations of shapes and colors on one’s body are intriguing. Even the different types of fabrics give different feels to one’s skin, changing the whole appearance and desire of the garment. I have done a comparison of dresses between the stores of H&M, Forever21, and Topshop, with a focus on the different fabric, the silhouette, and the colors of the store’s collection.…
