Shopping Assignment Young Misses Imagine the bustling of girls within a clothing store as they grab as many pieces as they can hold, to run into the fitting room, and return with the best choices, only to start the cycle over again. Yet, they don’t tire of it because the many different possibilities of seeing different combinations of shapes and colors on one’s body are intriguing. Even the different types of fabrics give different feels to one’s skin, changing the whole appearance and desire of the garment. I have done a comparison of dresses between the stores of H&M, Forever21, and Topshop, with a focus on the different fabric, the silhouette, and the colors of the store’s collection. In lower end stores like Forever21, synthetic fabrics are use commonly to lessen the cost and make easier to care for. Topshop and H&M is a step higher from being on the lower end spectrum and can afford the use more of natural fibers. In comparison, all stores have a high amount of polyester products and mixture of different fibers. All stores also use some percentages of nature fibers like wool, cotton, and silk. H&M is making a more conscious decision to use more organic fibers. Topshop and H&M shares a fair amount of both knits and weaves, while Forever21 holds more weaved pieces. The silhouette of this season’s trend is a closely fitted top sewn with either a closely fitted skirt piece, or a gathered/flare a-line skirt piece. [Pictures are attached.] All the stores are geared toward the same demographic and therefore share the same silhouette. Forever21 does more uses of the gathered/flare skirt while Topshop and H&M uses similar amounts of either two skirt shapes, which is logical if we look at the material used, knits verses weaves. All the collections use a mixture of neutral colors, mainly white. The main color theme is pastel colors with a few bright

Although Harrington Collection’s market research conveyed that less than 2% of respondents believed this would occur. Thus, in order for Vigor’s expansion to be successful, they must continue to underpin the core values of their brand and provide customers with a consistent and reliable experience in relation with previous products. In the past Harrington Collection has been well known for its top in-house design staff, extensive national advertising campaigns, and its exceptional quality and styling. Therefore the quality of the new collection must be synonymous with the rest of the Vigor products. In turn it is important that Harrington Collection continues to in-house produce as superior quality is one of their competitive advantages and furthermore this allows the company to have adequate control over quality. This is an imperative factor, because if an unacceptable piece of clothing made it out into the public the ramifications would be irreparable to the Harrington Collection’s brand name and value. Lastly, it is important to have fast turn around time within the fashion industry due to the constant changes in demand for particular designs and…

Every day a person may take five minutes to hours deciding what colors to wear and what their outfits should look like and decide whether or not their outfit is presentable to the people who may be seeing them. Social events and our social lives can and may affect our wardrobes and what we choose to wear a specific day, but why do some people choose to wear specific shades of certain colors with one another? Elisabeth Camp presents in her “The Socio-Aesthetics of Pink” the idea that the shades of a specific color can hold a personality which had been shaped by those who’ve influenced the color through branding and product naming, along with the way they have presented the color. One of the more affected social groups from this color branding is children, especially young girls who are exposed to the varied hues of the color pink. All of the shades of pink…

Throughout the history of women’s fashion it is known that each decade creates its own symbolic fashion statement within that time frame. The change in women’s fashion advertising is hard to go un-noticed once looked upon. In the 1940’s women’s fashion seemed to be relatively tolerable and not very difficult to strive for when it came to a women’s perspective. As opposed to today’s fashion advertisement for women; the image that “defines” beauty is what some would describe as unreachable without drastic sacrifice. The women in the image of a 1940s women’s advertisement compared to women in an image of today’s fashion could almost be described as a women that failed to make the cut in strive of todays “beauty”. If you ask me, women’s fashion advertisement has snowballed downhill since the 1940s.…

As I walked around the mall, I noticed the short shorts and baggy shirts that consume today’s women’s fashion. Leaving, I imagined the mall back in the 1950’s. The bright colored outfits reminded me of today’s. Even though both the 1950’s women fashion and 2016’s women fashion are bold in style, there are many similarities and differences in the two year’s fashion senses and their impressions on America’s fashion industry.…
