1. Effective communication and engagement

Good communication is fundamental at my setting as it helps with establishing and building trust, it also encourages the children and the parents to come to the setting and seek advice for any problems or concern they may have for their child.

* My setting believes it is important to establish and maintain relationships; this is done through the key worker system and includes dynamic practice that involves listening, questioning, understanding and responding to that child/person. * At my setting we are always to communicate with the children appropriately to match the stage of development, personal circumstances, and the needs of that child/person; * At my setting we are always to take into account cultural and background situations; for example, if English is an additional language the setting will provide information in their first language also ensuring that there is an interpreter at any meeting held with the child or family. * At my setting we communicate both on a one-on-one basis and as a group. We are also very conscious about the way we speak i.e. tone and volume of our voice as well as how we use our body language. * It is good practise at my setting to feel and show empathy, sincerity, and above all to listen. * My settings policy is that the key worker is to communicate with the child and family to help design and deliver the best service and care for needs for that child and the family; that will in turn help build a rapport with the children, and their parents/carers, it is important for the keyworker to be respectful, have understanding, and be honest.

2. Child and young person development

At my setting the key worker is actively involved in conducting routine observations on the children in his/ her group, in reflecting on what the observations show about the children’s current needs and development he/she will help in developing an individual play plan to ensure
