Common Cold: A Case Study
Patient is a 5 year old with a sore throat, nasal congestion, and has diagnosis of cold. Parents are concerned that the child is not on an antibiotic.
Priority NANDA: Deficit Knowledge r/t sore throat and nasal congestion aeb parents requesting ABX for treatment. (note: I am kind of unsure of this dx or if I did the r/t and aeb for it right if someone has insight and could help explain it better on how to word it)
Outcome is to educate the parents /parent on the signs and symptoms of a cold and the medication that can be used to treat a common cold, versus the use of antibiotics. Many new parents don’t know what will be effective for their child and what a child is actually allowed to take due to their age and weight and how their body processes medication compared to an adult.
