Unit CYP33 - Understand how to safeguard the well being of children and young people.
Outline current legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures within own UK Home Nation affecting the safeguarding of children and young people * The main legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures that are used to ensure that children and young people are safeguarded are “The Children’s act 1989” which was updated in 2004. * The green paper was introduced after the laming enquiry into the death of a young child and this was incorporated to the “Children’s act 2004” which now included a National framework. * The document “working together to safeguard children 2006” was updated to make way for the National framework. This was to promote the welfare of children. * The every child matters policy also covers safeguarding issues and the rights of young children to be able to grow and develop in a safe environment and has five outcomes. * This framework that the care services need to follow to make sure that every children and young people from birth to 19 living in England is the Every Child Matters policy and this has five outcomes which they have to make sure are followed.
They are: * Outcome 1: The Child/young person needs help to make sure they stay healthy, be being able to enjoy a good physical health and that their mental health needs are met and they are living a healthy lifestyle.

* Outcome 2: Children and young people should be able to stay safe: every child has a right to be protected from any harm or neglect that could happen to them.

* Outcome 3: Children and young people should be able to enjoy and achieve: children and young people should be able to get the most out of life whilst they are developing the skills that they need when they move into for adulthood.

* Outcome 4: Children and young people should be able to make a positive contribution a positive contribution: being involved with the community and society
