Executive Summary
During the last 4-5 years, Director Allan Rasmussen has successfully set up manufacturing operations in an off-shore project in Tatabanya, Hungary for Coloplast-Denmark. The project went well with and is deemed a success.
Coloplast has, to most extent, effectively come over problems due to non-documentation of manuals and transfer of knowledge from its Danish to Hungarian plant. Lessons have been learnt in Hungary with new employees being more familiar with quality and production processes than their Danish counter- parts.
The recent health care reforms in Europe coupled with changes in technology in treatment of cancer has forced Coloplast to look for ways to reduce its costs in near future to remain competitive. For this and keeping a positive experience from Hungary in mind, Coloplast is poised to make another off-shore expansion in China.
After implementing the Hungarian project, Allan Rasmussen is convinced that in order to be successful, Coloplast has to take globalization as a whole. Reason being, the current management setup at Denmark would hinder the progress, the organizational structure also needs to be re-structured.
For this purpose, the management roles in Denmark will be clearly defined, while processes will be standardized and documented. Further distribution centers will be established in UAE and USA to tap international sales potential, while German distribution facility will be relocated nearer to volume production facility in Tatabanya, Hungary. Local sourcing will be emphasized to reduce costs of raw materials and maintenance of machinery. Transfer of knowledge will also be standardized by translating machinery manuals into English to be able to translate back to any language later, with ease and convenience.
All this will be implemented within the period of 12 months. Lessons learned from setting up Hungarian plant, will be used as reference for most of the off-shoring project to China.

The supply chain for Riordan Manufacturing does consist of many different factors. From the ordering of the supplies and the shipping of different products, the resources can be stretched thin. In order to fix this the entire process, Riordan Manufacturing will need look at and review their current process to see if there are any areas that can be changed. In many cases, the products are being shipped internationally so in these instances there is little room for change due to the laws and regulations. With the other areas of shipping, especially in the China plant, the mode of shipping can be addressed. The Riordan uses two different companies for their shipments. To create a more streamlined process, Riordan can use FedEx solely. With this process, FedEx can make an agreement with Riordan for all of their shipping needs throughout the world. In some cases, FedEx would be able to offer discounts on the costs, lowering the costs to Riordan. Another area that can be addressed would be the motor ordering. There…

Based on the global value chain strategies, it would be best for ISOL to “build a new manufacturing facility with one production line in France close to the firm’s southern European markets” (Dornier, Ernst, and Fender, 1998). The reason ISOL should consider this, is because of the large percentage of sales increase that will take place among Spain (270%), and Italy (250%). However, both Spain, and Italy are close to ISOL’s southern European market, which makes it the best location to serve both countries. With the increase in both markets, the French current production line can only handle 3,000,000 cubic m a year, and it will not be able to handle the increase of demand for both countries according to Mr. Lenoir. To meet Spain and Italy’s future demand, the new manufacturing can set up a new production line. This will lead to an increase of 1,000,000 cubic m a year, and if the new manufacturing facility cannot handle the demand, then this plant can be used to set up another production line to meet the demand.…
