Victorian Britain was in almost all ways a period of oppression and exploration of women. Women in Britain during the Victorian age were seen largely as second class citizens in a so called “man’s worlds.” Women lacked the right to vote and the own property and inherit money once they were married, and where seen as the property of their husband to do almost anything that they so pleased. Though there are many reasons for why we can see that Victorian Britain was a time of exploration for women, in this essay the main points that will be focused on will be, women in the workplace, the role of women in marriage and the view that society had on women and their role within society. After looking at these points one will clearly see that Victorian Britain was a period of oppression and exploration of women.…

How did Sanger Rainsford successfully outsmart General Zaroff in the manhunt? In “The Most Dangerous Game” there are multiple ways Rainsford outsmarts Zaroff but there are three main ways, that are my favorite. The first trap that Rainsford made to get Zaroff is a Malay man catcher. Then Rainsford sets a second trap that is called the Burmese Tiger pit that killed one of Zaroff's best dogs. Finally the last trap is where Rainsford ties his knife to a sapling branch with some vine. The trap didn’t kill Zaroff, it did kill Ivan though. These are my favorite three ways Zaroff was outsmarted by Rainsford.…

An Inspector Calls is a play with lots of political messages as well as social messages. J. B. Priestley believed in socialism and he used large sections of his plays attempting to convince people of his way of thinking. It was written in a time when Britain was ruled by a Labour government and socialist policies were seen to be a good way to go. It was a common way of thinking at that time so Priestley's aim for the play may have been to influence the politically unsure in society.…

    F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby paints the picture of the way life was in the twenties. This society has the characteristics of an egotist and one who pays no attention the character of themselves. Fitzgerald's style influences the reader to portray this era as a carefree "do what feels good" society. However, Fitzgerald introduces the countless number of tragedies that take place. Through diction, imagery, and details Fitzgerald creates a morose tone. The writer evokes the reader's feelings through particular words and their meanings. In the phrase, ". . . I began to look involuntarily out the window for other cars," the word ihjsnciadicudbcKCHJ he reader feels cheerless for Gatsby due to the lack of fulfillment he has in his life. Next, after a half hour the procession of three cars finally reaches the cemetery. This pathetic scene shows the products of Gatsby's arrogant and cocky lifestyle. Because of his personality, very few come to pay their respects. This is a very lugubrious situation. Finally, the scene in which the unidentified man comes to pay his respects helps the reader view Gatsby through a different perspective. Though Gatsby was not well liked, this lone stranger looked past the arrogant ways and saw an intellectual man. However, it it's still poignant how no one comes to the funeral. These significant sequences give the reader better understanding of the morose tone and the emotional state of Jay Gatsby. Due to the way Fitzgerald portrays the passage in slow motion to make the reader feel each emotion and see each image in such vivid detail, it's as if the reader is seeing it take place. Through diction, imagery, and details Fitzgerald produces a morose tone. that Gatsby fails to receive. The word procession reflects the despair and lack of friendship that Gatsby witnesses in his life. The lack of companionship that Gatsby has cogitates how lonely and despondent he is. Through the uses of certain words the author helps express feelings and…

In this journal the reader will be predicting on what will happen in the future based off of the context clues that were represented in the reading. First, Bonzo and Ender will be tied up in conflict between eachother. From this they could get into a violent fight and so on. I made this assumption beceasue the context of the story makes it seem that Bonzo despises Ender. I saw Bonzo’s hatefull reaction towards Ender many times throughout the reading. First, when Ender joined Bonzo’s army he didn’t let him practice or pariticipate in any of the battles. He gave Ender strict orders to not get in the way or interfere with their work. In general Bonzo thought of Ender as a obstacle rather than a teammate. “I intentd to trade you away as quickly as…
