Christmas brownies are tasty treats that make their appearance in the winter of every year. The brownies are chewy and delicious, with an intensely chocolatey interior – somewhat like homemade fudge. My family enjoys the brownies in December as a Christmas tradition. When we bake them together, we take caution that we are using the correct ingredients and cookware, as this will ensure a positive outcome for the brownies. Mixing the right amount of ingredients correctly will give them the right consistency, which may take several attempts. Baking the batter at the correct temperature for the given amount of time will prevent problems with over and undercooking. Making chocolate brownies from scratch requires you to gather fresh ingredients and…

The English did not speak Dutch, so rather than call St. Nicholas Sinter Klaas; they began to call him Santa Claus. In 1822, Clement C. Moore wrote a poem for his children about a Christmas visit from St. Nicholas. In this poem, he talked about a jolly old elf that came down the chimney and filled the children’s stockings. Many of Mr. Moore’s friends asked for copies of his poem and in 1823, one of these friends published the poem anonymously in the Troy, New York Sentinel.…

The best clue to Boxing Day’s origins can be found in the song “Good King Wenceslas.” According to the Christmas carol, Wenceslas, who was Duke of Bohemia in the early 10th century, was surveying his land on St. Stephen’s Day — Dec. 26 — when he saw a poor man gathering wood in the middle of a snowstorm. Moved, the King gathered up surplus food and wine and carried them through the blizzard to the peasant’s door. The…

The self published novella 'A Christmas Carol' was written by Engligh author Charles Dickens in 1843. It sold all 6,000 copies within 9 days of hitting the stands and was met with instant success and critical acclaim. It tells the story of bitter old miser Ebenezer Scrooge and his reluctant jouney to find the Christmas Spirit guided by supernatural visitors Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Yet to Come. The effect the Charles Dickens writings had on this rapidly waneing Christian Festival was so far reaching and well received that many refered to him as 'The Man who Invented Chrristmas'. While Dickens didn’t technically come up with Christmas, he couched its spirit in a philosophy and centered it on an image that compelled people to see it and feel it as he did. “There seems a magic in the very name of Christmas,” writes Dickens, when “petty jealousies and discords are forgotten.”…

"Jewish celebrations are not limited to life-cycle events. As do all religions, Judaism sets aside certain holidays and days of remembrance as holy days. These holy days are scheduled according to the Jewish calendar" ("Basic Judaism", 2011). Unlike other calendars that are based off of the earth's revolutions around the sun the Jewish is on a secular calendar meaning it is made up of moon cycles where each month begins with a new moon. " Jewish holidays fall each year on different dates according to the secular calendar, but on the same date according to the Jewish calendar. Generally speaking, however, Jewish holidays always fall in the same season…

Let’s face the facts…. Christmas is in December. It’s October and not even late October at the time I’m writing this; and I’m already finding this gross red and green, Christmas related, candy cane striped trash sneaking its way into all of the stores! And this is just unacceptable! I mean, it is one thing for craft stores, like Hobby Lobby, because they have all seasons all the time and just shuffle stuff to the front as it gets closer to their respective holidays, but when it comes so Sam’s Club, Walmart, Dollar General, and huge chain stores like these, there is no reason to have Christmas stuff even showing up until AT LEAST after Halloween. And even yet, what kind of nutjob puts up Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving!? I don’t even…

A great work of art that has a great impact on my life is the novel A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickson. The story tells of a cold hearted, selfish business man named Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited by his deceased business partner Jacob Marley and three ghosts on Christmas Eve. Jacob Marley who chained tells Scrooge that he should change his way or he will be punished in the after life. Marley beged for Scrooge to be given a chance to change. The ghost’s job is to persuade Scrooge to change his ways to avoid punishment in the afterlife. The three ghosts show Scrooge past, present, and future events that help Scrooge realize he is wrong and changes Scrooge into a better person. The story has had an impact on my life in many ways. The story taught me that a person’s behavior is a product of their past. If a person is unkind, it is the events that happened in their past that has made them who they are. It’s a reminder that showing compassion toward unkind people can make them a happier. The story has also taught me to treat people with kindness and respect. Lastly the story has taught me to always help the less fortunate because a little kindness can change a person's life.…

The author’s intention is clearly defined through the characters in the different classes of society. Fred scrooge’s nephew on the other hand is the total opposite to scrooge and is happy with a very positive personality. Bob Cratchit also has a positive personality but has the point of view of being part of the lower class. All these characters have differences and can contrast one another in different ways.…
