Chicano Studies Reflection
During my sophomore year, I was able to take a Chicano Studies class that focused on the Chicano community during modern times. At first, I had no real interest until my professor began lecturing us about past profound events that impacted not only Chicano communities but other minority communities as well such as the Mexican Repatriation Act of the 1930s’ and the Zoot Suit Riots of 1920. Such events that I had never heard of once throughout my education journey. It was not until I took that Chicano Studies class that I then realized that the history that was being taught in schools was sugar coated and not the real history that I was learning.
