Eth/125 Assignment: Final Project
What information about diversity in the United States has helped you better understand or relate to others in ways that you may not have in the past?
Diversity in the united states in not something new here but in fact spans back many generations. Diversity is everywhere and no one can truly get away from it, but by accepting it a person can learn how to lead a better fuller life with variety of understanding for the people that come in contact with. I feel that the biggest thing I learned in this call about diversity is not that there is diversity but that there is a lot of work to be done to farther the peace action between the groups of people knowing this make me realize that the us is not yet a unity but is trying and gives me more will to make my voice heard that we need to start accepting one another.
• Have you learned something new about your own racial, ethnic, or cultural history?
My own racial, ethnic, or cultural history is a great big mess of origins, religions, and culture but this class made me realize that one I am not alone in time case and that I too as a person have boundaries that hold me back. For instance there is a glass ceiling which is “the barrier that blocks the promotion of a qualified worker because of gender or minority membership” (ch.3, pg. 78) this is not a barrier of race or religion or culture its based on gender and I being a women hinders my ability to progress in some areas of the working world. This is some thin that women from not just the United States have been fighting for but the United States I see ha made great strides to make things more equal and fair.

• Trends in immigration will continue to shape the demographics of the United States. What will the U.S. population look like in the year 2050? Why do you think so?
With the raising population factor and the immigrant that keep flowing in will make the melting pot a whole lot bigger making some big changes like the minorities becoming majorities and vies versa.

In my studies I have found confirmation of my belief that diversity in the United States will only improve with time as the increasing number of interracial unions increase. I have also affirmed my belief that so long as society chooses to put people into groups we will always have issues surrounding fair treatment of people from all walks of life. It is the collective mentality that harms our nation the most. So long as people are divided they lack the strength to overcome governmental intrusion into their personal lives. So long as “we the people” are divided we will continue to see attacks on various groups of people, rather than the peace that unity can bring.…

There was a great deal of new information about diversity available during this course. There was never had much of a chance to learn about other cultures considering the current environment. Growing up in Salt Lake City Utah, which is almost entirely Caucasian, particularly in the more wealthy areas, diversity in cultural and racial systems was almost non-existent. The area is also not very mixed religiously, being almost entirely dominated by the Mormon Church. People of the catholic faith are in the minority in the area. This can give a point of view on discrimination that is not as common among Caucasian males as it is among females and people of other races in the United States. The interest in history meant that there was a great deal of familiarity with the history of discrimination, but the realization that many of those struggles still persist today was never appreciated. Learning more about the current conditions of the various races, particularly the difference in salary has helped foster the understanding that discrimination is still very present in today’s society.…

My prediction is that the NIM will follow high projection alternative in the long run but low projection alternative in the next decade (which expected to be 788,165 in 2030 but then quickly increase to 2,074,282 or even higher in 2060). I consider historical evidence and current world issues in order to establish this outcome. History has proved that the push and pull factors play a key role in immigration trend of the US. People from around the world have been pushed away from their homeland because of reasons such as war, terrorism, violence; natural disasters and economic disadvantages. In the context of globalization, America is one of the first destinations many consider. However, the recent rising tension of terrorism in the Middle East has led to the migration crisis in Europe and created a serious issue not only for Europe but also for many neighbor continents. With a history of being the main target of terrorism, president Trump has issued a policy that bars people from 11 Muslim countries coming to the US. Although this policy hurts many people, there is no doubt that it is a necessary act to ultimately narrow the probability of terrorist attack. Moreover, he also puts restrictions on illegal immigrants and about to build a wall (hopefully a metaphor) at US-Mexican border. These policies will decrease NIM in the next decade and once its effectiveness take place, I believe NIM will eventually grow at high rate. As for fertility rate, I believe it will remain low and weakly decreasing. As a result, I think the middle to low alternative is most likely to occur, because increase in NIM will compensate for weak decrease in fertility but not enough to bring it up to middle to high…

Developing an understanding about the diversity of the population in the United States of America is paramount when interacting with demographics different from my own. I fell that the information that I received about others during the Cultural Diversity course has assisted in understanding and relations between those I interact with on a daily basis. One of the subjects covered during the course that stands out in my mind is the discussion of stereotypes. The discussion of stereotypes has made me conscience of my own misunderstanding of other cultures. The Jewish community was one of my most misunderstood cultures. My main misunderstanding about the Jewish community was anchored in religion. Being of Christian faith the Jewish people were like villains. After reading and reviewing about Jewish people I have more understanding and realize that their beliefs are very similar to my own (except for the obvious difference). In addition to learning about other racial, ethnic, and cultural history groups I learned some new information about my own. I was not aware of the vast cultural influence African Americans have in the United States of America. Of course I am aware of African American influence in agriculture, literature, and music. What I was not aware of was African American contribution to the sciences. Some notable contribution to science came from Granville Woods who had a number of patents to improve electric railway systems, including the first system to allow moving trains to communicate ("Wikipedia", 2012). Frederick McKinley Jones contributed by inventing the movable refrigeration unit for food transport in trucks and trains ("Wikipedia", 2012). Lloyd Quarterman worked with several other black scientists on the creation of the atomic bomb (code named the Manhattan Project). In addition Mister Quarterman also…

Diversity is an important part of American culture. Cultural diversity has helped to shape the way we live everyday as well as the different foods we eat. What really thought me about diversity is that it is not limited just too racial or ethnic groups but other minority groups. The new information I have learned about diversity still has not changed my views. I think it is important to learn about others cultures and backgrounds. Without knowledge about other cultural groups we would only have stereotypes to go off of. Stereotypes without proper knowledge can lead to discrimination or prejudices.…

Yet another crucial demographic change over the years is the national scattering of the Hispanic people. While the Hispanic community was largely concentrated in cities such as Texas, California, Chicago etc, over the years there has been a lot of geographic mobility across the country. The Hispanic population is also largely known for their youthful population which comprises a major chunk. The presence of the Hispanics in the US is no new phenomenon, but their growing political, cultural and economic prominence has created an awareness of their impact on the future course of the…

Back in the year 2000, we had about 282.2 million people in America, and 17 years later we increased up to 321.4 million people (infoplease.com). Part of what makes up that population are African Americans at 42 million, Mexicans 57 million, Chinese 3.79 million, Indians 3.18 million, and our many other races (pewresearch.org). Thanks to all of our diversity we can enjoy learning new things from each other such as religion, language, and culture. We can also value many things such as different types of food, art, and heritage (kaplanuniversity.edu). Our diversity provides its own special and irreplaceable contribution to our understanding of America today.…

'Diversity'. It's everywhere you look these days. When you switch on your TV set, you open up a newspaper, or you just look out your window - it's there. It seems everybody has a lot to say about diversity, but what does it mean, what does it really mean? And what does the future hold for a racially 'diverse' America?…

It is human nature to want to be part of a group. People seem to naturally gravitate toward groups of people who share similar backgrounds or characteristics. In fact it is beneficial to be part of a group; much of a person’s identity or sense of self depends on identifying with other like minded people. When people first started coming to America from other countries, many people were looking for religious freedom and ever since America has been open to different religions. Situations such as going through a stint of slavery and later segregation of African Americans and Whites, America has grown as a country to move past it and accept not only African Americans but all different races of people. Many countries would not be able to accept the differences of people from other countries and of other countries, and would even start a civil war just because of a different religion present with in that country. This, however, is not the case in America and Americans.…
