"Taxi, or shall I call for a Limo?" He slid his gaze over Elena's body in obvious admiration and keenness to see it out of the dress when they stepped out into the cool night air. Then, he lifted his eyes back to hers, arched a brow and smiled mischievously. "Although, with either, I don't believe I'll be able to keep my hands off you and the driver's likely to get a free show. The vividly green lawn with homey flower pots surrounding the hospitable lawn chair would seem to create a sense of comfort and approachability. However, the attire that Mayer is clothed in contradicts this relaxed impression. Her high-end shoes create a more sophisticated and unapproachable tone. Mayer’s adept presence in contrast to the seemingly relaxed setting may be to emphasize that although she is participating in something that is considered trivial in her field, i.e. modeling, she is still upholding her victorious place as the CEO of a Fortune 500 company.…

My maternal grandmother Shirley Rae Harrington grew up during World War Two. But despite the war, she lived a somewhat normal childhood. When she was young there were very few other children in the area to play with and her younger sister, Sissy, was paralyzed. So she often played by herself in a stream nearby. Her family also owned several horses, chickens, pigs and a billy goat. Surprisingly she didn't get into much trouble as a child, except once when her family was down in our properties Maryland. People were racing speedboats in the creek, so she asked a neighbor who her family knew if she could go. He said yes and took her in his own boat when they got back her parents were fine but Mimi was upset with her. Her first travel experience…

Where, she had set the table with soup bowls, cutlery, glasses filled with iced-tea and light pink cotton napkins. Thom and I take a seat and she pours the hot, spicy, thick liquid into our bowls. “Enjoy,” she says, and leaves us to eat lunch in private.…

At times when I grow bored about living in Louisiana, the state’s remarkable culture, food, and geography soothes my adventurous desires to relocate. While a lack of activities to engage in is frequent when living in “the bowl,” going on a boat ride on a beautiful day eliminates my state of idleness. One might infer that water is just water if he sees it all the time because it is always there. When I visualize water, I think of my late grandmother who loved Louisiana’s bodies of water.…
