Personal Narrative: Baseball Rules
The following morning, I skip bike practice again, but Doris goes anyway. At the office, Megan caters to me. On her way in, she stopped at Trader Joe’s to buy me a protein drink with antioxidants from Trader Joe’s, a bottle of chewable Vitamin C and a whole grain carrot muffin. I drink half the bottle and listen as she tells me, “Thom cancelled the development meeting, since he met with you the other day.” I’m grateful to have the morning free. And, thrilled, when Business Affairs calls to say they have received Doug Conway’s signed contract. Right away, I have Megan phone his agent to set a date/time to meet with him this week. When that’s done, I find Doug’s screenplay, “Baseball Rules” and my notes. I want to review them and have Thom …show more content…
When we enter the front door, Elena greets me with a giant hug. We tear up, and she walks with me into the dining room. Where, she had set the table with soup bowls, cutlery, glasses filled with iced-tea and light pink cotton napkins. Thom and I take a seat and she pours the hot, spicy, thick liquid into our bowls. “Enjoy,” she says, and leaves us to eat lunch in private. We eat with no talk of work or cell phones present. When he brings up my bike trip, I merely say, “I’m determined to give it my best shot.” He excuses himself and goes into the living room. When he returns, he hands me a letter sized envelope with his accountant’s firm and return address on the upper left corner. I open it, and inside is a check made out to “Elizabeth’s Ride Charity.” When I see the amount, I can barely speak. “Why are you so generous and kind to me… when I hurt you?” “Because… unlike everybody else, you never ask me for anything. You even gave me back your engagement ring. Most women would have kept it.” “It was the honorable thing to do. I didn’t keep my commitment to …show more content…
His appreciation my story of survival in the wilderness tickles me. Until he says, “Let’s bike on Saturday to Malibu and if you’re up for it, all the way to Manhattan Beach.” “We can try,” Doris says. Not to disappoint, I go along with it. But when alone, I check out the route to Santa Barbara on the map again. The trip worries me, so I phone Malcolm for advice. I mention my fever, and extreme fatigue. Also emphasize, “We’re novice cyclists, not ready to bicycle 100 miles on unfamiliar roads. When, we haven’t biked farther than Santa Monica to Venice.” “Who says you have to bike all the way?” Malcolm says. “Nobody… except… how can we not?” He explains that Carpinteria is an hour away from L.A. by car. Rather than bike there, we drive. There’s a State Park and beach off the 101 Freeway where we can find a location to park our car. And from there, it’s only twelve miles to Santa Barbara. “Once you get to the finish line. We’ll eat dinner, celebrate and I’ll drive you back to your car.” “Wow, why didn’t I come up with that?” I

I tested the waters of bicycle riding by dragging my feet along the bumpy asphalt, but gravity was working against me. The incline was not allowing me stop, so jumped off. I walked away with only some bumps and bruises. The riding of my bike was put on hold for some time. My fear had gotten the best of me. It was not until the next summer that I would venture out again on my bike.…

My dad has been a baseball fan for as long as I can remember. When 1:20 rolls around on Sunday afternoons, the television is declared my dad's for the mandatory Cubs game. Granted we weren’t obligated to watch the game, however, my older brother and I occasionally stuck around to watch. Overtime, this television snatching turned into an annoyance, most games are over three hours long, which greatly cut into my precious TV time on the weekends. I grew to hate the game because I found it long, boring, and filled with little action. Also, the only games my family watched were Cubs games and the Cubs have sucked since 1908. But like every good relationship it takes time for a bond to…

Baseball has been part of my life since I could remember. As a child, baseball was a game we always enjoyed watching as a family. Many family members played baseball professionally, such as my great-grandfather, grandfather, and father. Our love of baseball is where the journey began. It was a trip of lifetime, my family and I ventured on a baseball park trip across the country. It was the ballpark journey that I gained an understanding of motivation, self-perseverance and inspiration to become the best version of myself.…

Hi , I’m Lilli Burton . I am in sixth grade, and play baseball with the boys. A barrier i have faced is trying to play baseball because I am a girl. Whenever I try - out , they say “ She would be great at softball.” I face the barrier in Summer and Fall when it is time for baseball. A lot of coaches are sceptical about putting me on their team, but I don’t let that stop me from trying and trying again.Until someone accepts me for who i am. To overcome this barrier , I used integrity by sticking up for my beliefs and not always caring about what people think of me . I also used determination by never giving up and try my best to get better and better everyday. My barriers are similar to Jackie Robinson’s because we both wanted to do something…

Baseball is the best thing that has ever happened for my life. When I was younger I always played impact football , but was never really interested in doing anything else. Then, I was introduced to baseball and immediately fell in love with it, and I still love it to this day. Everyone struggles in this sport more than any other sport. You fail more than you succeed and that's how baseball goes for everyone. I had struggled with hitting and fielding over the summer and that hurt my mental part of the game .…

Friday night, as our entire family sat together in the living room watching an episode of Jeopardy, listening to one of the contestants give their story about how they taught their African grey parrot to not only have an eighteen hundred word vocabulary, but also be bilingual, you could feel everyone’s boredom spread throughout the room. My brother, who was sick and tired of hearing Alex Trebek said, “Guys, why don’t we ever go do something fun! We should go to Magic Mountain this weekend.” I shrugged it off and continued to watch the TV screen, when to my surprise, my mother spoke up and responded with “Actually, that’s a great idea! Everyone, go pack your bags!” We all, as slow as sloths, got up and packed, thinking that nothing was really going to happen. To my surprise, the next morning, as the sun was just starting to appear, making the sky look enriched with colors of gold, purple, and blue, we all squished into the car, like a can of sardines, and ventured out on our spontaneous trip.…
