Since I was 7 years old, I have always participated in Greenwich’s very own Cardinal Baseball Camp. However, until last summer, I had always been one of the campers. This year I was an official volunteer of the camp. Everyday from 8 a.m. till 12 p.m., me and approximately 30 other staff members at the camp would teach young kids how to play baseball. This camp is run very locally, and it is very personalized, something that should truly be valued in a large town like Greenwich. Although not perfect, this is the best camp in town, and it will continue to stay that way as it continues to improve itself. The Greenwich Cardinal Baseball Camp is a very effective place for kids to go and not only learn the game of baseball, but meet new friends,…

Babe Ruth is considered the greatest baseball player of all time and one of the most iconic. He holds many records including highest on base percentage and highest slugging percentage. He held the most home runs hit all-time until 1974.…

He was raised in Baltimore, Maryland by his parents, George Herman Ruth Sr. and Katherine Schamberger. His mother gave birth to seven other children, but because of health problems only one other survived. My dad has been a baseball fan for as long as I can remember. When 1:20 rolls around on Sunday afternoons, the television is declared my dad's for the mandatory Cubs game. Granted we weren’t obligated to watch the game, however, my older brother and I occasionally stuck around to watch. Overtime, this television snatching turned into an annoyance, most games are over three hours long, which greatly cut into my precious TV time on the weekends. I grew to hate the game because I found it long, boring, and filled with little action. Also, the only games my family watched were Cubs games and the Cubs have sucked since 1908. But like every good relationship it takes time for a bond to…

Mickey Mantle was one of the greatest baseball player in the history of the United States. He was born in October 20, 1931 in Spavinaw, Oklahoma. His Dad was Elven Mantle. "He taught Mickey Mantle how to switch hit and play outfield". His mom was Lovell Mantle. He grew up in Spavinaw, Oklahoma. At the age of four, him and his family moved to another town in Oklahoma. He was a very good athlete; he played basketball, football before he started playing baseball. In fact his football playing almost ends his career as a player. "Mantle's leg soon became infected with osteomyelitis a crippling disease that would have been incurable just a few years earlier. A midnight ride to Tulsa enabled Mantle to be treated with newly available penicillin, saving his leg from amputation." Indeed this disease was the reason why he couldn't join to the military. Having this disease was a problem for him and for his athlete career.…

“GET HOME!!! GET HOME!!!” Those were the words my dad would yell from the third base coach’s box as I passed him rounding third! Baseball to me is more than just a game! Baseball is a passion, fueled by the desire to succeed, the passion to overcome, and the dedication to be great. A baseball field to me is like a stage is to a dancer or an open road for a biker; I just love every aspect of this amazing sport. It’s the field with its seemingly unfair depth, its soft green grass and the infamous red dirt, that make me have the passion for the game like my father did as a child. My life seemed to be limitless when I was in between that fence. Taking cuts on the tee, putting together a pickup game that didn’t matter who won or lost, or even on those days that practice seemed to never end, I still had the love for the game.…

Hi , I’m Lilli Burton . I am in sixth grade, and play baseball with the boys. A barrier i have faced is trying to play baseball because I am a girl. Whenever I try - out , they say “ She would be great at softball.” I face the barrier in Summer and Fall when it is time for baseball. A lot of coaches are sceptical about putting me on their team, but I don’t let that stop me from trying and trying again.Until someone accepts me for who i am. To overcome this barrier , I used integrity by sticking up for my beliefs and not always caring about what people think of me . I also used determination by never giving up and try my best to get better and better everyday. My barriers are similar to Jackie Robinson’s because we both wanted to do something…

    Baseball Narrative

I had struck out most of the up-bats before that (I wasn’t necessarily the best baseball player back then). However, I was completely ready for the ball to come at me. I grasped the handle of the cold, hard bat tightly. The ball flew right over the home plate, and I hit it with all the power I had left in my body. The ball went soaring, looking like a white bird migrating south. The ball landed unquestionably far into right field, and as soon as it did, I started to sprint to first base. I decided that it would be safe to round to second base. I had already been past second base when the player playing right field got to the ball. I made it to third base, wondering if I could sprint home. I decided to wait, but I clearly could have ran to home plate. It took a while to process what had just happened. I had just hit a two-run RBI triple! I hadn’t even noticed the two runners on base come home, since I was really in the moment. Our team got through the inning, and it was my turn to pitch. This was only the second time that I had ever pitched while playing baseball! I ran out to the mound, and I started to warm up with the catcher. I rolled the hard, slightly dirty ball in my fingertips. “You can do this, Nathan,” I thought to myself nervously. “The whole team is relying on you.” After a bit of time, I was able to strike out two players and get a groundout to end the…
