Babe Ruth Annotated Bibliography
For my roaring 20’s project I researched Babe Ruth. Babe Ruth was an important figure in the 1920’s. Baseball players still talk about him even today! Babe Ruth is considered the greatest baseball player of all time and one of the most iconic. He holds many records including highest on base percentage and highest slugging percentage. He held the most home runs hit all-time until 1974.
Babe Ruth was one of the eight children in the Ruth family. His parents were George Herman Sr. and Katherine Herman. Six of his siblings died in infancy and he had only one surviving sister. His parents noticed that he was becoming very deviant as a child so they sent him to St. Mary’s Industrial School for Boys which was run by Catholic monks. The school was known for its strict order and discipline. During this time he discovered his talent for playing baseball. One of the monks at the school noticed the boy’s love for baseball and helped him develop his hitting, fielding and pitching skills.The monk invited Jack Dunn, the owner of the Baltimore Orioles to …show more content…
By 1916, he had built a reputation as an outstanding pitcher who hit home runs. Babe Ruth won three World Series Championships with Boston. He wanted to play a different position so he was allowed to convert to an outfielder. Babe Ruth broke the single season home run record in 1919. After that season, Red Sox owner Harry Frazee controversially traded Ruth to the Yankees. He played 15 years with New York, Ruth helped the Yankees win seven American League Championships and four World Series\championships. As part of the Yankees lineup in 1927, Ruth hit 60 home runs, extending his MLB single season record. Babe Ruth broke the single season home run record over 4 times! He spent the last couple of seasons with the Boston Braves then retired in 1935. During his career, Ruth led the AL in home runs during a season twelve
