Brick Masonry Personal Statement
The career I chose is Brick Masonry (bricklayer). As a bricklayer I will be doing many different kinds of building. I can help people and our whole society by bringing homes and businesses to the communities of the United States. I will be working with both bricks and blocks according to the plans for the building. I really like working with clay bricks but blocks are used for most commercial buildings. Since I like working outside and making my own mortar, I believe that I have chosen the right profession. I also like working with plans.
A bricklayer’s job is to read and work from plans, specifications along with repairing and maintaining clay bricks, cement bricks, and blocks. There is more to be a bricklayer than just putting bricks in place. Some jobs require you to work at high altitudes and in extreme heat or cold. You have to be able to measure distances from a reference point to ensure straight lines. As a bricklayer you will repair

The national range is from $44,000-54,000. Salaries vary according to experience and skills. The size and location of the company you work for also varies. The base pay for an inexperienced bricklayer is about $10.00 per hours but can quickly increase to $27 plus per hour with hard work. You have to be willing to work hard and work long hours. You have to like working outdoors, although some bricklayers do inside finish work with brick or stone. Bricklaying is a physical job. You have to be prepared to work in all kinds of weather. You can get paid for working longer hours to get the job done on time. You will be asked to read blueprints and make decisions. You have to do some jobs outside your area like dismantling or using jacks to shore up foundations. Math is very important in the building trades. Having a high school diploma is necessary if you want to become a master builder but college courses will also help you to move up to
