Sonography: A Good Career
Do you prefer to have a good job or good career? I prefer to have a good career which happens to be sonography. A sonographer also known as an ultrasound technician uses high frequency sound waves to produce an image of soft tissue. Sonography is a good career because of its wages, flexibility, and the amount of school required for this particular field. The first reason why sonography is a good career field is because of the wages. Sonography wages are high and the projected demand for technicians over the next decade is expected to increase by 24%. (“Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and Cardiovascular Technologists and Technicians, Including Vascular Technologists”) This is a good thing because it means there are more opportunities for someone entering this field. The money you can make while working as a sonographer can put you solidly in the middle class. The average wage for a sonogram technician is $30.59 which results in a median of $63,630 a year. The courses that you have to take regarding sonography classes are a minimal 2- 3 years in a college if you want an associate’s degree. (“Ultrasound Associates Degree”) Prerequisites might take one year to complete. Prerequisites might also be an option you would have to complete before you can actually get into detail about your career. The prerequisites for an Associates in an Ultrasound or Sonography career depend on the ultrasound school you are planning on attending. This is the most common degree accepted in the work place because of its duration in schools. (“Associates Degree in Sonography, 100+ Programs in 2016”) Some students seek to have meaningful careers but don’t relish the idea of four or more years of college.
