Braford Breed
The Braford breed of cattle was developed in Florida in the 1940’s by crossing Hereford bulls with Brahman cows. The breed was developed to create a more uniform meat product that can withstand the southern weather. Subsequently in Australia between 1946 and 1952 a separate genetic line of Brafords were production, this line of cattle is a pure 50/50 mix of Herfords and Brahmans. The Braford have similar characteristics to Hereford’s, with the red coloring but they possess white underbelly, head, and feet. They tend to be stockier than a Herford which they got from the Brahman cows during genetic development. The Braford is 3/8 Hereford and 5/8 Brahman.
