Since the existence of humans, we have been prone to disease and illness. As the search of treatments for enduring diseases is growing faster than ever before, I find it exciting that through the knowledge we gain from research we can build a greater understanding of how the human body functions and develop treatments and initiatives that will improve the health of people all over the world. With this being said, I have come to the conclusion that my career must involve research as a major component in conjunction with patient care.
Biomedical Science appeals to me as it is a collaboration of learning and practical work, both of which I hugely enjoy. Throughout my current course, I have thoroughly enjoyed studying cell biology, genetics and disease and infection. I found great interest in cell biology and find it captivating how the smallest component of the human body is also the most important. The transferable skills I learnt whilst working are completely invaluable and will stay with me for life. During this period of work, I learnt how to speak Makaton; a communication aid used by adults with learning disabilities who have impaired hearing. In addition to this, I have attended a CPR training course in college which provided me with one of the most essential necessities; saving a life. Working and studying has allowed me to see first-hand the strength of communication between health professionals and has allowed me to develop key listening and observing
