Nursing Personal Statement
I believe there are a handful of truly inspirational professions and nursing is undoubtedly one of them. Along with other medical staff, nurses provide an invaluable service to society and to be part of the profession is a long-term ambition of mine. Furthermore, I am driven by a real determination to care for others and having studied the human body, I find it fascinating.
While I recognise nursing is a challenging and demanding career, I feel the rewards would be great and I am ready to embark upon this journey. I have worked hard in my personal life and my academic studies to reach this stage and I’m eager to pursue a career in which I’m able to help and care for those in need. Aspects of my duties included verbal and physical communication with the residents, which is an important part of developing relationships with them. This perspective really attracts me to nursing and I feel my calm and caring nature is a quality which people can respond to and find comforting. My time working in the care home also taught me how to work well in a team with colleagues and made me appreciate how important it is to follow instructions from senior staff. This recognition will also be a valuable quality as a nurse as it will be necessary for me to realise my role within the group of health professionals and to use my communication skills to work alongside others, to determine what level of care is most beneficial for a patient. As my second work experience location, I chose a butchers so I could ensure that I'm not squeamish and am comfortable around blood. These courses showed me the importance of sanitation and that I am able to remain calm under pressure and maintain my emotional stability. I recognise the relevance of these characteristics within a medical environment and feel they’ll be important in my ability as a nurse.
I have a background in sport, represented my district in competitions and was elected for activities captain at my school. This improved my organisational and communication skills which I believe are ideal for learning about the advantages of team work. To apply these skills and work with children, I volunteered at a local school with primary aged children teaching them netball.
I am particularly keen to study at your university because I recognise the value of completing a nursing degree and would like to expand upon this qualification into a specialised area, once I have explored the options during my degree studies. While the extracurricular activities available at the university would be beneficial for my personal growth and development, I feel that I could make a valuable contribution to the university through sports, joining groups, participating in events and volunteering my time and
