I believe that America’s pastime has a major influence on a person’s character. Whether you are on the field, in the stands, or even on the couch, the game of baseball seems to always have an effect on you. Baseball and life can be synonymous, and I believe that the lessons learned by playing the game can play a huge part in the way you live your life.…
Sabermetrics is the mathematical analysis of baseball records and data. Sabermetrics uses its own unique statistical categories to measure player performance instead of the more orthodox categories including: runs batted in (RBI), home runs (HR), and wins (W) for a pitcher. The theory behind sabermetrics produces data using complex formulas to determine the value of a player for the team as a whole rather than what his own individual end-of-season statistical line indicates. By far, baseball has both the longest seasons and the longest games, making it extremely hard to evaluate data from a single game at the beginning of a season and develop a prediction…
Baseball, America 's national pastime, is an arena in which players behave remarkably like Malinowski 's Trobriand fishermen. To professional ballplayers, baseball is more than just a game. It is an occupation. Since their livelihoods depend on how well they perform, many use magic to try to control the chance that is built into baseball. There are three essential activities of the gamepitching, hitting, and…

The following morning, I skip bike practice again, but Doris goes anyway. At the office, Megan caters to me. On her way in, she stopped at Trader Joe’s to buy me a protein drink with antioxidants from Trader Joe’s, a bottle of chewable Vitamin C and a whole grain carrot muffin. I drink half the bottle and listen as she tells me, “Thom cancelled the development meeting, since he met with you the other day.”…
So it was the championship game for babe Ruth and it was our team vs remax probably the two best teams in the league. Also I was starting pitching for our team I have pitched in big games before but never one like this game. so I was kind scared but I was ready to play in the game. So I got ready and left my house at 3:30 on the way there I took a nap to get rested for the game. So I got there a hour and a half early so when I got there I just kinda sat around and waited for all the other players to get there and so we could start warming up so when the catcher Liam Nash got to the field me and him were throwing like short toss and then we throw like long toss to really stretch out are arms. After we did that me and Liam took a break and got…

Hi , I’m Lilli Burton . I am in sixth grade, and play baseball with the boys. A barrier i have faced is trying to play baseball because I am a girl. Whenever I try - out , they say “ She would be great at softball.” I face the barrier in Summer and Fall when it is time for baseball. A lot of coaches are sceptical about putting me on their team, but I don’t let that stop me from trying and trying again.Until someone accepts me for who i am. To overcome this barrier , I used integrity by sticking up for my beliefs and not always caring about what people think of me . I also used determination by never giving up and try my best to get better and better everyday. My barriers are similar to Jackie Robinson’s because we both wanted to do something…
As a kid, I always wanted to play professional baseball and live up to my dream to play in the MLB. I had high expectations for myself, and I was really determined to achieve my goal and live a successful life. I was convinced for a long time that playing baseball was the right choice for me, but that has changed over some time. As time has passed, I now have a different mindset; to work in the field of criminal justice. Success is the accomplishment of one’s goals, and I now have a new goal that I wish to accomplishment later on in my life. I hope to work in this field by first enlisting in the military, then becoming a police officer, and finally work my way up to a higher position. If I can achieve these goals during my life time, then I…
An experience that has helped to shape my life was an incident I had with a pro-baseball player during the 2012 and 2013 baseball seasons. According to my viewpoint, the conflict started after we were assigned to our respective leagues for that season. I started observing that “the player” (name that I would use to identity and protect the person’s identity) did not want to follow the strength and conditioning program as the rest of his teammates. ‘The player’s” behavior had several implications: one, “the player” could get injured since he was doing what he considered was best. Two, other players thought I had favoritism with "the player" and tried to do the same. And three, I could had lost my job if any team player got injured by not abiding to the program stipulated.…
I was 5 years old ,and I was sitting on my brand new trampoline... my parents then came out and said ,” You wanna try something new like maybe softball. “ I of course said ,”YES!!” The next day I had softball practice and I was scared about there being the mean girls on the team. I knew that there were going to be the girls that thought they were the best. And there was. I had one person help me out and that was my dad and mom helped sometimes. I was scared of playing softball once I got on the field ,because the ball moved so fast coming at me. I have wanted to give up softball many many times ,but I did because my dad would push and get me to get in the yard to practice. I know that I will try more new things in the future. For, instance…
The baseball bag laying there all alone on a perfect day. With nobody to play catch or to hit. There I am thinking its just a hobby, passing up all the moments I could have practiced. All the missed opportunities I missed. I wish I could take it back. Now I have realized its more than just a hobby its my passion.…
The dorky, round glasses settled crookedly on my face, and my poor fashion sense gave the impression of an athletic misfit. Being the smallest, most awkward student in school never had any advantages. I felt my life was full of challenges, and thus, I had to strive to prove my small stature did not hinder me in the slightest. I struggled throughout my younger years to find a sport that suited me but I finally decided to dedicate myself to the pursuit of playing college softball.…
