In his ESPN article “College Athletes Deserve to Be Paid,” Michael Wilbon begins by saying that he used to 100% against the idea that college athletes should be paid, but has recently reconsidered his former belief. He now agrees that college athletes should be paid, but not all of them. He feels that the only male student-athletes that should receive some type of benefits are the ones that actually generate significant revenue for their school and the NCAA. Paul Daugherty writes that college athletes already has advantages that aren't available to other students. College coaches ensure that their athletes have free tutors and easier professors or classes to ensure that they will pass to protect eligibility, unlike non-athlete students. Daugherty also explains how college athletes enjoy traveling around the United States to places other students dream about He also argues that paying only football and basketball athletes would be unfair to those who play for non-revenue sports such soccer and baseball/softball even though they work just as hard as the basketball and football …show more content…
Nocera feels that the current NCAA system is flawed because the athletes realize that academics isn't a priority during the season. He also explains that even though fans pay top dollar money to see the student-athletes, the coaches are the ones who received the big paychecks. Later in the article, Nocera constructs a plan to fix the flawed system. He believes the current system can be fixed if coaches offer top recruits contracts instead of scholarships, lifetime health insurance is given to every college athletes, and a minimum salary cap is set for all scholarship
