College Athletes Should Be Paid Analysis
Majority of the sports world knows about College basketball’s biggest event, which is March Madness. They could probably tell you how many points, rebounds, and assist their favorite player has each game. However, what they don’t know is that most of these college athletes go hungry every night throughout the season. While many college athletes are given a scholarship and other grants they are only provided limited meal plans. For example an excerpt from an Internet article states that “The semi finals—broadcast exclusively through Turner Sports' family of networks including TBS, TNT, and Tru TV grossed 16.4 million viewers total. The article also states that both CBS Sports and Turner Broadcasting alone paid more than 10.8 billion to the NCAA back in 2010 for 14 years of rights to air their games. College football, as well as men’s and women’s basketball, are the money makers as far as collegiate athletics is concerned. Most other programs are actually cash strapped. Therefore, the issue becomes should only football and basketball college athletes be paid? (Patterson, 2016). Also, how would you choose who gets paid what and where does the money come from? Who should pay the athletes the colleges or television networks or does it come from an outside source? In my opinion just like I stated before they should be paid but I do think that it might be hard to accomplish this because what about the students before them and the ones before them.
