Analysis Of Armi Armin's Dinner
Dinner

Armin sets the table with his mother’s best china and silverware. He replaces the candle with a fresh one and sets the candlestick in the center of the table. He pops the cork from a South African red to let it breathe before dinner. He runs his hand down the lace tablecloth smoothing any wrinkles. He wants everything to be perfect. Armin returns to the kitchen to begin cooking. Fresh garlic sizzles as it hits the oil in the pan. He sautés the minced garlic until the aroma fills the room. He coats the outside of the steak with a crust of salt, pepper, and nutmeg before placing it in the pan. It sputters in applause. He sears both sides before covering and reducing the heat. It is a large portion of steak and needs to cook for several minutes.

They are a delicate potato pastry that Armin thought would compliment Bernd. He placed several bite-sized pastries on his plate next to the steamed Brussels sprouts drizzled with green pepper sauce. Armin set the lid to the pan aside, releasing a plume of steam and an aroma that made Armin emotional. Soon his connection to Bernd will be forever. He carves the steak into several slices, the gradient of pink is beautiful. With several pieces on his plate, he returns to the dining room, eager to eat dinner, to feed that hunger in his psyche.
Armin lights the candle and blows out the match. He dims the lights and sits at the head of the table. The setting sun's last rays dance on the ceiling. The shadow of the mountain creeping, slowly encompassing everything in the room. He pours a glass of wine and places his napkin on his lap. Fork and knife in hand he cuts a slice in two bites. The piece seems to palpitate on the tines of the fork. His eyes close, his lips part and he takes a bite. It tastes like pork, but more

Thirsty I made my way towards the kitchen to pour myself a glass of Cranberry Pomegranate juice. Sitting around what’s left of the dining room table one of its hinges obliterated merely three table legs left as a support. A branch from the oak tree near the kitchen window kept tapping against the walls and windows as the wind blows. This branch at night when the murky moonlight blooms against the massive tree meticulously resemble an oversized man with a knife trying to break into the house. I often dreaded coming down the stairs for a cup of water or juice late at night when the lights were off. The terrified image and screeches sound on the window always send me scurrying right back to my room and ducking under the covers trembling for dear…

There are eating with there right hands from a circular dish on the center on a strip of matting about 4 feet wide. White portrayed the man and woman in detail such as the man’s side-shaved head, his feather, and the woman’s three-string bead necklace. De Bry’s made considerable changes in this watercolor as well. He included surroundings while White’s original work didn’t visualize any specific details of surroundings. In the De Bry’s engraving, a gourd water vessel, a skin bag, and a tobacco pipe are added as if he was showing luxury Indian’s life. More interestingly, De Bry titled the engraving “Their sitting at meate,” which was originally written in ink at the top on the White’s watercolor. As in “meate,” De Bry pictured more meat in his engraving: “walnuts, a fish, four husked ears of maize and a scallop or clam shell.” Also he depicted a man on the right side more muscular, and a woman on the left side a little plump describing their wealthy daily lives. Furthermore, there are differences in their faces. Their faces are more skinner and a man seems to have a stronger feature. What De Bry might have thought was to make Indians faces close to Europeans’ in order to familiarize their…

CHAPTER ONE We are at rest five miles behind the front. Yesterday we were relieved, and now our bellies are full of beef and haricot beans. We are satisfied and at peace. Each man has another messtin full for the evening; and, what is more, there is a double ration of sausage and bread. That puts a man in fine trim. We have not had such luck as this for a long time. The cook with his carroty head is begging us to eat; he beckons with his ladle to every one that passes, and spoons him out a great dollop. He does not see how he can empty his stew-pot in time for coffee. Tjaden and Müller have produced two washbasins and had them filled up to the brim as a reserve. In Tjaden this is voracity, in Müller it is foresight. Where Tjaden puts it all…

Dale, the narrator, comments in an enthusiastic tone that, “Dad thinks mum is the greatest cook on earth” so when she serves them a rather ordinary looking cake Daryl asks, “what do you call that, darl?’” Sal’s simple answer of “Sponge cake” sums up that this family have yet to really come to grips with the astronomical influence of the global village on Australian cuisine. He states glowingly just how he feels about Sal’s cooking when he says, “Why go out to a restaurant when this keeps coming up night after night”. Eating meals together is represented as an important family tradition.…

The glistening, white snow fell slowly to the ground outside the window. The distinct shapes of the snowflakes shown; the light from the street lamp seeping through the cracks. The mumble of the heater in the corner of the room; the faint sound of the blood dripping onto the floor were the only sounds. He lay there; motionless. The thuds were entering the silent room once again. The creaking of the wooden floor grew louder and louder. Still the light of the street lamp shone through the window and onto the far wall. The nasty figure walked into the murky room. Only its shadow appeared on the far wall behind it. The boy in the bed was Eli. His tiny eight year old body was red with his own blood. Then……

She is pretty, but moderately pretty, not overdone or arrogant. The husband, however, has a "round, self-satisfied face." He is haughty and overconfident. The reader recognizes his self-centeredness and demeans him for it. The reader is told that the woman provides a "small but glossy birthday cake" for her husband's "Occasion." There is "one pink candle" in the center of the cake. The cake's appearance parallels with that of the wife's. Both are small and modest yet in their own way appealing. The wife has supplied a "little surprise" for the one she loves and she is very proud of it. The others dining at the restaurant react with a "pattering of applause" to support the woman and encourage her. The reader echoes this applause in his own mind in order to also help the woman. However, the reader at once discovers that the man "was not pleased." Brush then quotes the thoughts of the reader towards the husband's behavior with the reaction of "Oh, now, don't be like that." The author uses the words that she knows are in the mind of the reader. The woman is then seen to be crying "all to herself." Her husband has deserted her and she is left alone "under the gay big brim of her best…

At supper the narrator begins to see Robert as a capable human being rather than a burden and he remarks that he watched with admiration as Robert used his knife and fork on the meat. "He'd cut two pieces of meat, fork the meat into his mouth, and then go all out for the scalloped potatoes, the beans next, and then he'd tear off a hunk of buttered bread and eat that" (233). Suddenly the narrator no longer has much to base his prejudices on.…
