Creative Writing: Police Kill More Whites
“Medved said that police kill more whites than blacks. In absolute terms, that is accurate. However, the statement ignores that there are more than five times more whites than blacks in America. When comparing death rates, blacks are about three times more likely than whites to die in a confrontation with police.”

` The streets on 32nd avenue were usually filled with faint whispers exchanging deals of women and drugs but the only thing that night heard was Barry and Louis. Barry hid behind the door of car while pointing a gun in the direction of Louis who was mirroring the same action. They stood about

This was the day Barry awaited his trial after his date was pushed back many times. He held onto the cross his wife gave him on their wedding day. As Louis’ defense attorney talked, momentarily he would close his eyes and picture his wife. How beautiful she was when they met at a Yankees game. The smile she gave him when she announced she was pregnant after being told she would never be able to. And the look on her face when she had her last breath in his arms on the hospital bed. He opened his eyes and the judge’s mouth opened and a tear rolled down his …show more content…
Staring through the beige bricks up to sky. Imagining what it looks like and how it smells. He holds the newsarticle in his hand and closes his eyes. He saw how beautiful Oscar was when he held his hand for the first time in the hospital. How beautiful his granddaughter was when he held her hand the first time at home. How beautiful his wife was when she would kiss him everyday from work. And now he had to imagine how Darius looked when he took his last breath swimming in his own pool of blood. Blood the color of his momma’s dress she wore on Sundays. Blood the color of Oscar’s favorite jacket. Blood the color of his momma’s favorite

The glistening, white snow fell slowly to the ground outside the window. The distinct shapes of the snowflakes shown; the light from the street lamp seeping through the cracks. The mumble of the heater in the corner of the room; the faint sound of the blood dripping onto the floor were the only sounds. He lay there; motionless. The thuds were entering the silent room once again. The creaking of the wooden floor grew louder and louder. Still the light of the street lamp shone through the window and onto the far wall. The nasty figure walked into the murky room. Only its shadow appeared on the far wall behind it. The boy in the bed was Eli. His tiny eight year old body was red with his own blood. Then……

It is a known fact that there more afican amaerican in prison than there is of any race. African americans have always received the shorter end of the stick. In the article Crime, Cops, and Context speaks about the victimization of black and latino youth in New York specifically. These boys were victimized by New York police department. In the text it states, "Recent study figures predict that 80% of Black men ages 18 to 19 will likely bestopped by the police—versus 40% for Latino males, and about 12% for White males giving credence to the idea that 'race evidently became a factor in everyday policing'" (Rengifo, 2016,p. 456). This conveys the argument that blacks are targets to police officers. When a person sees a young black male in a group with friends they tend to believe the boys are in a gang or…

Why kill us, we made you. Police killing people, people killing police for many different reasons also, nowadays blacks can walk down the street without being called a name. Can you believe that whites and blacks can marry each other. A lot of people might have something to say about it though. When I say police like killing people I don't just mean everybody I mean mostly blacks throughout the year, it's been about blacks. In my life it's been about protecting myself. How can I protect myself if there is people out there that are trying to end my race. For an example Freddie gray he did not do nothing so he got killed because he was a black man.…

In 2015, 50% of victims of police shootings were white, and 26% were black. However, African-Americans make up only 13% of our population, so this rate is disproportionate compared to the population. In addition, in 2015 the police shot 36 unarmed black males and only 31 unarmed white males. Unarmed before . And since African-Americans make up close to ⅛ of the population, the fact that unarmed black americans are shot more than white unarmed people is ludicrous. It is true that african-americans do commit more crimes than white americans, however. African Americans committed 62% of all…

But according to an article in 2012, a black person is killed by a security officer every 28 hours. As it was also stated in this article, that African-Americans are about 13.1% of the nation population but it has nearly covered 40% of the prison 's population. Also, blacks sometimes do sell drugs and is the same as white but they have a higher percentage of getting arrested for drugs than whites and this is racial profiling. Black offenders also definitely receive a longer sentence compare to white offenders. Other than that, most of the blacks killed were unarmed, which according to the report, 44% of blacks was killed even though there was no sign of weapon. 27% deaths are claimed that the suspect had a gun but there was no prove to this. 2% had small weapons such as knifes, big scissors and cutters or any other similar weapons, and only about 20% had guns or deadly weapons. Most officers that killed blacks claim that they were afraid and they were trying to protect themselves so they have been force to open fire. These police officers open fire if they feel like they are being threaten, for an example, the suspect running away from the cops, driving towards to cops or getting something from their waist. Police officers do not conclude if the suspect does have a weapon or not and yet just use deadly force to solve the issue. In one of the known cases of an African American getting…

    Minorities In Police

Police officers use excessive force on minorities despite being in a diverse environment. First and foremost, from more than 400 shootings from 2008 to 2015 in Chicago, 3 quarters of the people wounded or killed were black. Hispanics were 14% and whites were 8%. This data shows that police officers are more likely to be violent to minorities than to white people. According to The Washington Post, “Census data show that black, Hispanic and white people make up nearly equal slices of the city’s population.” (Berman). Even though populations in Chicago are equal, more minorities are being killed or wounded. In To Kill a Mockingbird, for example, Tom Robinson was killed by a police guard when he was attempting to escape prison. He was shot 17 times. Tom Robinson’s brutal…

Dan White and others believe that because racial profiling is based on statistics, it is a legitimate tactic that should be utilized by law enforcement. New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly states that “96% of individuals who were shot and 90% of those murdered were black or hispanic”(Kelly). Kelly uses this particular statistic to express the sentiment that stop and frisk is protecting the lives of minorities by profiling them. However, his logic is simply flawed because it essentially proclaims that because victims are of a certain race, the perpetrators must automatically be the aforementioned race. Commissioner Kelly’s position seems to lack a basic understanding that black people can kill white people and white people can kill black people. If Commissioner Kelly were to apply this logic to any terror attack in the United States, the group targeted by racial profiling should be white males. And yet, that is not the case. Instead as a nation, America associates terror with muslims and will never have the capacity to associate it with the group actually responsible for majority of tragedy. Whites are a privileged race because even when one of them turns out to be a domestic terrorist, no one will call for them to be…

    Race And Crime Essay

As I wrap up my blog we have seen that crime is not race specific. All races commit crime, furthermore all races participate in gang activity, it is just not reserved for Black and Latinos. All of the examples used in the previous blogs are not exclusive to certain races. What makes the difference is how society views who is a criminal and who commits crimes. Added to this, is the disproportion of how crime is handled. With the exception of heinous and violent crimes, many people who commit crimes will most likely get away with it. How the criminal justice system handles cases can affect who goes to prison and who doesn’t. Furthermore criminals that are more culpable may get away with lighter sentences, than those that are only accessories to the crime, simply because of their race, or because they can afford better attorneys.…

This is completely true. There are currently 110,871 white inmates in prisons across the United States compared to the black 71,647(“Federal”, par.1). What is not said in that argument, however, is black people only represent 13.3% of the United States population, while white people make up about 77%(Williams, par. 1). So, yes, while there are more white people in jail, black people are going to jail at extremely high rates in proportion to white people. The other argument is black people are more likely to commit crimes. Police officers are stationed near minority-populated areas. When a focus is put on catching crimes in a specific area, of course more crimes are going to be seen. If an African American and a Caucasian commit the same crime at the same time, the black person is more likely to be arrested. This is due in part to the fact that black people are more heavily policed because they are seen as more dangerous. One problem is that the government sees this and knows it is a serious problem plaguing America, yet they have not taken any steps to prevent it. It is hard to dispute the facts about racial disparity in the justice system. While it is not good to commit crimes, it is unfair if a different party gets less time due to…
