Albanian Pride
Red and black runs in my veins
Everyone fears that it does
Because of you I am me
And because of you I am Albanian
Albanian is what I am
It keeps me going
And because of you
A piece of me is apart you
I am willing to die
To see you fly
The two headed eagle is in my heart
The shqiponja is what I see
And for you ill keep my head up high
And for you I will die I’m proud to be Albanian

Reflection 1

I chose to write about this because this is apart me who I am. And I love the fact that I am Albanian it means a lot to me. It mean a lot because of the traditions that have been passed down to my parents to me. But also it means a lot to me because of my cultural had to do to be who we are now. We want people to think two ways about who Albanians are. We want them to know we are kind and hardworking. We are kind and respectful to the people that want to get to know and to show them that we aren’t just a bunch of fighters and not respectable people. But on the other hand we show fear because of what we are willing to do for our flag and country. The fact the people know how much the flag and country mean to us, think we are crazy and ridicules but in the end we are just people who’s flag and country means a lot to them just like there families do. When the reader reads this I want them to know that we will do anything for our flag. We will die and defend it to anyone who puts it in harm. But also I want them to know how much it means to us. The fact that we are willing to put our life on the line for our country is a lot and I want them to take that in. I think this poem defines me as a poet because if I was a poet all I would do is write about my cultural, my country, and my flag because they mean a lot to me. I want the traditions from the past to be pasted down to me and I my family because I don’t want them to stop at me I want my kids to know how much they mean to me. I personally like the poem because it means a lot to me and that it’s

War is a part of our world and has been since the beginning of time. Through war, men have been given the opportunity to fight for freedom, for their country and for their beliefs. Young men have marched into an abyss, some never to return again. They have faced death on a daily basis and the way in which some of these soldiers have responded is through verse. The four poems entitled “Dulce et Decorum Est” and “Disabled” by Wilfred Owen, “Conscript” by FA Horn and “The Photograph” by Peter Kocan have aroused different emotions in their reader including…

Just like every other war, the Vietnam War was a tragic age where blood was spilled and sorrow filled the hearts of people from both sides of the battlefield. Yusef Komunyakaa was one of the many who mourned over lost loves and friends. His poem describes the heartache he encounters as he visits the memorial for all the lives that were lost. Post-traumatic memories flood him all at once and he envisions some of the slain veterans and citizens reflecting in the wall of names. He is bitter at the war that has scarred his life, but the poem ends with a tender scene of a woman brushing her child’s hair, which overpowers the grudge he holds. The message Yusef Komunyakaa implies in his poem “Facing It” is that enjoying life’s beauty and warmth is stronger than mourning over regrets and mishaps, and he displays the theme by powerfully utilizing metaphors, imagery, and symbolism.…

The trials and tribulations of war are things that are not easily forgotten by those involved, and are also things not easily understood by those not involved. It is impossible to truly understand the emotional toll that something as devastating as a war can have on a person. In the poem “Facing It” by Yusef Komunyakaa, it centers on an African American man who served in one of the most trying wars of all time, the Vietnam War, and is visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. In this poem, an understanding is gained of the unrelenting grief and emotional toll that resulted from this overwhelming experience through the presentation of the emotions evoked from the man by the memorial, his feelings and experiences during the war, and also the apparent connection between him and another survivor.…

‘Flag’ considers the value of patriotism as symbolized by the flag, and explores ideas of national identity, with a running metaphor comparing to a flag. It considers how the flag is used and exploited, this creates sympathy, and the refrain explains subtly that the flag is ‘just a piece of cloth’. In each of the first four stanzas a question and answer is given which both asserts and challenges the power and value of the flag telling the reader, it can control countries; it can motivate men; it can change the minds of cowards; it can live forever. This shows a high level of power and in a way shows hidden personification as its capabilities (excluding the final point) are of some intelligence that would only seem human. In the final stanza the person asks how he can possess such a powerful item, and the answer to the earlier questions is revealed, with having possession of the flag can have terrible consequences. He addresses the reader directly: ‘the blood you bleed’. He follows this in the final stanza, by revealing what the ‘piece of cloth’ is, but also revealing the consequences of taking the flag, losing your independence, the freedom to make your own decisions and, it is implied, your morality. This only makes the reader more curious.…

Show us different aspects of the parties that are involved in the conflict. Flag by John Agard explores the patriotism and pride over sovereignty of the motherland. How a piece of cloth , a flag can unite people from different ethnic backgrounds and cultures to fight for a mutual agenda symbolizes grandeur ,the love of their country to such extent where they can give away their lives for that symbol of unity. In the poem “The bayonet Charge”, the poet portrays a transition of a patriotic soldier trapped in the chaos of a battle field where his patriotism disappears and are replaced with fear when sights of death and anarchy are experienced. The battle for the country shifts to a battle for the soldier’s own survival.…

The government tried conscriptions, which backfired on them greatly. Protests started and the people were standing up against the war. The battles may have been fought by soldiers, but the war was played by politicians. This war showed that it didn’t bring disgrace to your family if you didn’t fight, but rather showed your ability to keep up what the politicians were spouting; and in some cases if you went to war people would disrespect you for that choice. The history behind these two poems are overwhelmed with war and all its horrors.…

Clearly this is a very important poem and we should all learn from this. I did especially because that makes me think what good I could do for people, especially the ones who need the help. Even though they are fiction, but we can be the real hero to everyone and make a difference in the…

I represent a juxtaposition of seemingly opposite views in two poems: The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls, and A Psalm of Life. In Tide Rises we see the washing away of evidence that one has lived and passed this way, yet in Psalm of Life, he uses foot prints in the \"sands of time\" that are not washed away but remain to remind us of great men who passed this way. \"Lives of great men all remind us / we can make our lives sublime / and departing leave behind us / footprints in the sands of time....then he tells how these footprints can lift and elevate a \"forlorn\" brother who may have lost his way. It\'s true that we all are just passing through this earth life, and as the generations keep coming, we will pass into obscurity with only the remnants of our having been here being our name on a grave marker, or a family pedigree chart...UNLESS we choose to do something that leaves our mark on the world. Write your book. Paint your pictures. Compose your music. If those arent\' your talents then write your life story. Put it in a book format. Leave a legacy of your life\'s lessons. I did this very thing so I won\'t be forgotten. Mine is STRUMMING ON HEART STRINGS: THROUGH DOORS OF ONE WOMAN\'S JOURNEY. My friends, leave footprints that \"the little waves, with their soft, white hands\" cannont \"Efface the footprints in the sands...\" Even though we\'re here for a brief time, our lives matter. Before the tide\'s soft, white hands begin messing with your footprints, determine your legacy...write your life into the annals of history, even if it\'s just your family history. You may be the salvation of a grandchild or great grandchild. Read A Psalm of Life to feel the impact of what I\'m…

Explanation: In this poem, the speaker discusses how people will do anything just to get a story. In the midst of crisis and destruction, someone will always be trying to capture on the moment. In the poem the speaker discusses when President Kennedy was shot. Instead of describing it in a somber way, the speaker talks about how the media glorifies the event. The speaker also discusses how as a society we fail to recognize the unsung heroes. “A prince of battle is blown into bloodymeat. No headlines.” The speaker describes the death of a brave soldier during battle. Though his death was heroic no one will ever know the tale. This poem symbolizes the culture of our society and how we put emphasis in the wrong places. While we take the time to recognize celebrities and public icons for their deeds, we fail to give tribute to those who have sacrificed their life for our freedoms.…

I remember when I first experienced goosebumps raise on my arms and send a shiver through my body, simply because the words leaving the speaker's lips left such an imprint on me. I didn’t think that a simple sentence could bring tears to my eyes, could cause me to react in any physical way. I didn’t even know the author. Yet, it still amazes me anytime I react to such a poem. The emotions that the author pours into every word and every syllable is astounding. Each pause and breath tell a story on their own. I knew that I had to try. I wanted to make people feel the way like I did when I first heard them, but because it was my words that made them react.…
