My Act of Kindness Everyone should do something nice to someone at least once in his or her lifetime. Kindness is the act or the state if charitable behavior to other people. Doing something kind to someone makes you feel great about yourself. People also look at you in a better way when they notice your act of kindness. That’s why I decided to do an act of kindness.
On Saturday, I decided to take a walk with my friends in DC. While I was taking a walk we noticed a homeless man laying outside the metro without any shoes and dirty ripped clothes. I started thinking what if I was in his position? I reached for my wallet in my pocket and took out a 10-dollar bill and handed it to him. As he grabbed it from my hands he said, “God bless you.” I noticed a smile on his face. The smile on his face made me smile and feel great about myself. We kindly decided to donate money to every homeless person we saw after him that day. Every time I donated money that day I felt better about myself. To see the smiles on their faces and how happy they were made me feel so good. That day was probably one of the best days of my life. Everyone around us noticed what we were doing and appreciated it. We got endless people walking up to my friends and I telling us how much difference we made to those people. As I was thinking to myself people shouldn’t take things for granted. There are people who have it worse then us that’s why you should be thankful with whatever you have or get.

The homeless people I served meals to hated being there. They hated the cloths they wore. They hated having to be feed in order to live. The homeless people there were not like the ones who beg on the street for money. These people were unfortunate to be in there situation, and they were trying to get back on there feet. Their purpose of being at Faith City was to change their life around. I could tell that they did not see many volunteers there, so they were grateful for me for caring for there poor souls. These people never take anything for granted because everything in their life is a struggle. Anything donated will never go to waste, but it will get used to its last straw. The homeless know that they do not get much opportunity so they have to make the most of everything. That is what the taught me, and that is how I want to life my life after this…

When I was walking into Food Lion to grab an item, I noticed an elderly woman struggling with trying to get her items to the car. At first I thought to myself how no one has helped her yet and then thought again that I should have already been there to help. My roommate noticed I ran off and she followed right behind. I then proceeded to ask the woman if she would like any sort of assistance with her groceries, the woman shook her head and said yes. This made me ecstatic that I could help and I was thrilled my roommate came over to help out as well. After we help we walked in and it made me want to go help other people with their groceries.…

The random act of kindness that I completed this week was buying an old man a coffee in front of me at Starbucks. He ordered a Grande Pike with room. I heard the order and said “I’ll get that miss” and without even hesitating handed over my card to pay for the drink. The older man look at me with a cracked smile and confused kind of look before muttering the words “you didn’t have to do that young man, but thank you” I replied with a smile on my face “no problem Sir”.…

It is the morning rush hour, a homeless man stands at the curb of a busy street, hands stretched out, holding a dirty cardboard sign with washed out words written in marker reading, “No home and hungry, please help and God bless”. His clothes are ragged, his hair oily and unkempt. This is his spot. People drive by; most look away, some acknowledge him. Many people turn away thinking this man is a failure, a bum who needs a pack of cigarettes or an addict looking for his next fix. The sympathetic throw down a few quarters; they have done their good deed for the day. Many people see the homeless as outcasts. Though the question arises, isn’t there something wrong with a society that has so much poverty amidst so much…

People of different races and religions gave, some gave a little and some gave a lot, but the point is they gave. They recognized the problem and helped as much as they could. This was incredibly helpful for me to see especially after seeing the results of the election. I was crushed knowing that Donald Trump would be our future president; I was convinced that “hate won.” But, in fact, hate did not win, people didn’t let it win and they will not let it in the future. Hate can feel all encompassing but there are Linchpins who recognize the problems, in the U.S and around the world, and are willing to fight back with all their might. Dr. Moore just recently began to talk about Homelessness and the sigma there is of people not willing to help. I learned a lot about people that day. I saw everything Dr.Moore has talked about manifested, brought into reality, at this event; I saw hope in its purest form. In the future, I want to reach the status of being a global citizen; I want to be a social justice warrior; I want to be the hope among all the…

Not only was I inspired to help the homeless, I learned new cooking skills. For example, I never knew how to cut a chicken or chop melons. Also, every one deserves to be assisted in any way. I am thankful to experience serving my community. I learned that it is not the homeless fault for being in the position they are today. So many unfortunate outcomes could have resulted them to be homeless such as, being laid off. San Jose is a very expensive city to live in, which means it is even harder for families and individuals to live in. The homeless are hungry every day, and does not have the energy to function to apply for a job. City Team also impacts the homeless lives by providing them shelter and unlimited food not only for the day but the next couple days by giving them extra snacks. Although feeding the homeless does not solve hunger, organizations like City Team helps the homeless to be able to eat a full meal and impacts their…

Though there are many homeless people in New York as well , it was a different feeling because it was mostly children and they were living as if they just needed a hand. Some looked as if a vacuum had sucked up all the meat on their bodies, others looked as if they were straining to live their last day. As I walked passed them, I realized that tears began to fall from my eyes. It was so heartbreaking and painful watching them begging and living as if they were nothing. I gave a few some dollar bills and I talked to them just to show them that they aren't alone and that there are people out there who actually care and appreciate them. After seeing them, I told my cousin to take me to a place where I can just talk to kids my age or under and spend some time with them. Especially after the earthquake that happened on January 12, 2010, I felt as if it was right to give to people that were hurt and even kids who lost their parents and had nowhere to…

Many of those people, did not choose to be in a situation where they have to ask for help. At one point, homeless people had dreams of becoming someone important in life. Despite the situations these people have gone through , helping the homeless can change our community by lowering crime rates, and having hard workers.…

Not only gun violence and mass shooting changed my expectation about America but also homeless people was another new experience I didn’t expect before coming. One of the weirdest things my friends taught me, was to do not stare people as much, but I couldn’t let things pass by without watching. I could watch something or someone for long time till I forgot where I was going, my friends decided to give me sunglass so that people couldn’t tell that I am staring to them. It was in that instant when one pregnant homeless caught me off guard and extend her arm toward me asking for help. I felt so bad that I didn’t help, I wish I could have done otherwise.…

The issue on homelessness is one of America’s most IMPORTANT issues to date because, it’s something that most of us see everyday. There are more homeless in New York, than anywhere else in America( 75,323). Did you know that one quarter of homeless people are children? Homelessness also plays a huge role on the lives of the children, who are part of it. We, as a country, need to think about the many decisions that not on affect ourselves, but the people around us. Finally, when I moved to New Orleans I started volunteer work at the Children’s Hospital and helped with pop up clinics for the Latino community twice. Overall I found that helping others shouldn't be something seen as duty or mandatory, it should be spontaneous. Through others experiences and hardships we learn and grow as human beings, not only did I enjoy helping others but I felt that it helped me with my problems. Having moved around so much and meet so many people and living by myself so many years I came to truly be thankful for my blessings and specially for my hardships. Hermann Hesse once said, "I have always believed, and I still believe, that whatever good or bad fortune may come our way we can always give it meaning and transform it into something of value." Helping others made me realize that we all need help and that my way to help others would be through their health. It also taught me not to judge anybody, especially if you don't know what they have been through. I am hard believer that everything happens for a reason, and all the weekends I spend watching my parents help others helping others myself made me the determined person that I am today. Finally, the most important lesson I learned was to never give up, no matter how hard the task is or how bad the problem is there will always be someone willing to help and you can always be both sides to that, the helper or the one who needs…
