Dale Partridge once said, 'You were born with the ability to change someone's life, don't waste it." Throughout our lives, most people choose to ignore helping those in need. Many of those people, did not choose to be in a situation where they have to ask for help. At one point, homeless people had dreams of becoming someone important in life. Despite the situations these people have gone through , helping the homeless can change our community by lowering crime rates, and having hard workers.
In New Orleans, you can spot a homeless person at every corner. Some are overly dressed for the long cold nights. Others, can’t even afford any type of clothes. Many of these homeless people carry a piece of cardboard asking for money or food. Occasionally, someone will stop and give them money with the uncertainty that the money will be spent on drugs or alcohol. What people fail to realize is that one simple act of kindness can change a person's day.
The amount of people that actually stop to help someone is very low. There are people that may want to help the homeless but their behavior says otherwise. From what I have witnessed, several of the homeless people that stand in the streets are asking for jobs. People can benefit from helping the homeless by giving them the jobs other Americans don't want. The church group I encountered helps people by helping them look decent for a job. Once a homeless person starts working, they have hope to be successful. One of the volunteers I interviewed described how hard these people in the streets work after given the opportunity. "They just want to be able to provide for themselves and have a roof over their heads each night," one of the volunteers
