Music has the ability to provoke certain emotions and convey messages that lectures and instruction simply cannot. When it comes to performing, it is not only essential to know the material but it is also significant to know how to effectively execute the material just as well. With every performance comes strengths and weaknesses, there is always room for growth. Receiving critiques and constructive criticism can serve as a beneficial approach in identifying where that growth can be made. Of all the exceptional performances at the Spring concert, there were three pieces that really stuck out to me: Metsa Telegramm by Uno Naisoo, I Couldn’t Hear Nobody Pray by Andre J. Thomas, and Daniel, Daniel Servant of the Lord by Undine Moore. Metsa Telegramm was the first piece that was sung by the Intermediate Ensemble. According to the background information given, Metsa Telegramm is known as the Woodpecker’s Warning. As an upbeat Estonian piece that delivers an important environmental message, the components of Metsa Telegramm effectively correlate to the message of the song. I noticed that the singers had a soft tone when singing the lyrics “Tok tok tok” but they still managed to seem strong and powerful as a choir. The intensity levels of their voices would vary by word and the sound of the sticks really emphasized the forest background of the piece. When you are given certain facets of a performance to pay attention to, you realize things that you normally wouldn’t if you were just listening for pure enjoyment. With this experience, you are strengthened as a performer. Assuming a different role in a performance puts us in the shoes of those that would be watching, which can assist us in working towards our final product - an exceptional Spring concert

    The object of the first task set was to create a performance in response to the stimulus given. The stimulus we received was a short passage from a story describing a circus, the description allowed us to freely explore our different interpretations because it was a broad and different approach to the typically happy and childlike setting of a circus. As a whole the class responded with quite abstract and solemn pieces, I feel the physical theatre reflected the tone of the stimulus well, all of the responses tended to lean towards drawing fear from the audience, for example instead of limiting the use of space to a typical theatre styled front on stage setting the use of proxemics broadened when groups branched out and included the audiences space during their performance, this gave the piece a threatening edge and popped the comfortable bubble that the audience would’ve usually been used to and expected.…

    For my humanities report, I attended the Wind Ensemble concert at the Timko Barton lobby on October 8, 2015. The concert was so inspiring and refreshing for me since I love music and am currently studying music. Sitting with some many people and listening to beautiful music from a variety of genres was so restoring to the soul. Dr. John Jenkins, the director, was so motivating in every piece of music and of the program. The concert program ran smoothly as the ensemble band transitioned gradually to each different song piece. In addition the scenery added to the peaceful presence during the show.     On February 10th I watched the Detroit Symphony Orchestra perform Beethoven’s Fourth and Fifth symphonies at Orchestra Hall in Detroit. Even though the musicians were in Michigan, I had the full experience right inside my dorm room. The webcast was a really interesting experience that I enjoyed. I think I may have even appreciated it more than the real thing. Although you cannot replace getting dressed up and going to a concert, I liked this webcast because the different camera angles provided footage of everyone playing their instrument and if I had been in a seat I would have been stuck looking at the same few people the whole performance.. For example, the conductor would usually have his back to the audience throughout the performance, but since I was not a part of the conventional listeners, his facial expressions were exciting to watch.     On October 19, 2013 I sought out to listen to some classical music for my review for class. It was a pleasure to have found the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra at the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Oviedo, FL, a part of St. Luke’s concert series of 2013-14 that has been held in the last nineteen years here in Oviedo, FL. This free event that’s held each year at St. Luke church holds about three hundred people in there sanctuary, everything in the décor speak to your imagination Lutheran church. It was very nice it reminded me of a small concert hall. The orchestra fill the whole area were the choir usually sit. Christopher Wilkins, he conductor along within a full orchestra and Rimma Bergeron–Langlois the violinist, who all played four great suites from the genius of Georges Bizet, the piece from L’Arlesienne, Carmen suite, and Carmen fantasies, and Symphony in C’ that took you back in time. This classical music from the romantic era was breath taking.…

    This was a great Lecture of Daniel Barenboim, I enjoyed the way he talked about everything, I enjoyed the way he talked and played the beginning 'Tristan and one of my favorites movies, reminds me of Romeo and Juliet..     The song choice for this band seems very appropriate for the level of players in the ensemble. I also enjoyed the Christmas medley that they played with the concert being close to Christmas. The band had very good balance. They had a good foundation with the low brass and woodwinds.
