Christmas Music Concert Analysis: A Christmas Concert
The song choice for this band seems very appropriate for the level of players in the ensemble. I also enjoyed the Christmas medley that they played with the concert being close to Christmas. The band had very good balance. They had a good foundation with the low brass and woodwinds. The upper woodwinds were not shrill sounding and blend very nicely into the foundation the lower instruments set for them. The rhythms were together and precise. They were able to switch between staccato and legato seamlessly.
The intonation of the band overall could have been improved. I noticed, especially with the low brass, that their sounds contrasted heavily with the other low brass instruments and the upper woodwinds. If the intonation was fixed it would have improved the performance immensely. If they had better contrast in dynamics it would also take their performance to the next level. There were times when it got really soft and it conveyed the right mood but the biggest moments in the pieces could have been

The Christmas music was played very well and conveyed the happy times of Christmas. They played in many different styles which really showed how versatile their band is. I really enjoyed seeing a grown-up group where they are not professional musicians. It opened up my eyes to other people that enjoy playing music without it being all they do. I thoroughly enjoyed the concert and thought that it was a success. This essay has been a review of the concert I attended. In the preceding paragraphs, I have explained the musical elements that went well, what could have been better and my personal opinion of the concert. As a musician, I learned a lot from attending this performance, both about the music itself and what I should strive for in my own performances. I hope that through this essay I was able to share this new knowledge with you. I look forward to putting my new knowledge to work in a practical way as I prepare my next

All of them had a good posture, and a good tone. However, I suggest that they could have fewer violins, or more of other instruments. The group played ten pieces throughout the concert. The pieces were the Introduction and Tarantella by Pablo Sarasate, Pezzo Capriccioso Op. 62 by Peter Tchaikovsky, Violin Concerto in D major by Johannes Brahms, Barcarolle in F major by Fryderyk Chopin, Piano Concerto no.2 in F major by Fryderyk Chopin, Clarinet Concerto no.1, in F by Carl Maria von Weber, Caprice no.24 in A minor by Niccolo Paganini, Vioiln Concerto no.2 by Henryk Wieniawski, Etude-Tableauz Op. 39 no.9 by Sergei Rachmaninov and Piano Converto no.3 in C minor by Ludwig van…

A good electric guitar player is part of the group as well. They also at one point had a woman with a nice singing voice perform with them. She sing several songs with them. Next, I found out why they had the Bad New Jazz & Blues Orchestra again at the festival. In the band, one member acted as their conductor. Several individuals play saxophone. A couple of individuals plays horns. Three trumbones are involve, a woman sings well in the band and unlike Space Train had key board player in it. The trumpet players were good and I am not what you call a fan of them. In fact, I like the singing of this woman better than the singer in Space Train. It was very well organized orchestra. People in the audience must have agree because a couple…

It had an extreme tempo and really showed off their ability to stay tight as a group while leaving plenty room for improvising. It is hard to determine a specific jazz style for this group because each song seemed to showcase a differing jazz style. Something that really stuck out to me was this trio had no problem leaving space in their music. Some musicians feel they need to be continuously outdoing themselves and each other, playing notes for no reason (in my opinion). With Brad Mehldau this was not the case, each member is constantly listening for room the may be given to improvise, or listening for when they can allow another member to begin something new or exciting with this newfound space. This group also had phenomenal volume control because each member had extreme precision, helping them to make parts of the song more potent than others. The last thing I noticed was their ability to solo without any regards to the constraints of the specific tune they were playing. What I mean by that is, you could see and feel the trust in each other to allow each member to express their musical desires without having to step on each others toes. The first example of this was Jorge began a drum solo about midway through the show and it must have last ten minutes. He had many variations throughout the solo and there were many times where I thought they would go back into the original tune, but he pressed on. Near the end of the show, Brad Mehldau started a solo, beginning with a slow tempo, working his way into the mist of his idea. This solo was much longer than the drum solo and was very impressive, blowing me away numerous times throughout the improvising, and showcasing many different musical ideas. For those who didn’t attend, I would give my recommendation 100% for someone who has never seen Brad Mehldau Trio. It was a unique experience that broadened my musical…

Although I am beginning to appreciate classical music more, I personally enjoy music with words more than music without words. When songs have words I pay more attention trying to figure what the storyline is behind the song. I am very into music all genres such as, pop, country, rock, reggae, and so on. I am open to listening to anything new, which is why I enjoy going to different music events such as this block party. Overall, I enjoyed this performance very much and I am glad I got to see such a great band perform for free, thanks to Utica College. I wish I could have listened to more but I am glad I got to hear a few musical selections before the event was…

Overall, I enjoyed my attendance at the concert choir held at Benedictine University. The show was well done and I could tell that the members of the choir worked very hard in preparation. Although there were eight songs, the concert went by fairly quick. There was only one baby grand piano in the middle of the stage, but other than that, it was interesting to see that no other instruments were used except for their own voices and they were able to project an excellent performance for the…

The drummer did an awesome job at the intro, which led to such wonderful consonance of trombone, trumpet and saxophones. The musician made great jumps on the stage. There were no rule; everyone just wanted to have fun. Everyone started shouting “hey!” as the song went on. The rhythm section did a great job on keeping the beat full, strong and steady through the entire song. In my opinion, the climax of the song was reached at the swung note when the trombonist was “feeling the music”. Once again, the drummer and the upright bass-er ended the sone…

The first part is Festival Chorus. They have organized very well. There are a lot of kids sing on the stage. All the songs are well prepared; everyone performs different parts in a song. All of them mix in a perfect way, it sounds much more professional. Sometimes cadence, while sometimes is melodious. I really enjoy them. The audiences give a shower of applause to all the singers. This first part is a really good start of the entire concert.…

Their concert wasn't just any ordinary concert. They make you feel like you are a part of the experience and engages with the audience in a way you feel like you already know them and feel like you are having a conversation with a good friend. They made a video to promote their spring showcase and they introduced themselves and talked about each other, so that the viewers can get to know them. Every member seemed like they were proud to be a part of Sympathetic Vibrations. Every time they sing, they always say back and forth and do little dance moves, which added energy to their performances. They demonstrated great dynamics and each part had different times in which when they crescendo and decrescendo. Although their pitches were in a different octave than the original song, their pitches were accurate with the key they…

The first section of the concert was the most delightful and satisfying to listen to. The violins and woodwinds were the main melody for most of the piece. Both instrument made the texture of the beginning very calm and satisfying by playing legato notes that gradually crescendo/decrescendo. The texture made me to feel relaxed and at ease. I would describe the text painting as a calm ocean, the feeling of drifting in calm water. Half way through the piece, the clarinets and flutes began to follow the entire orchestra and its smooth tempo, which inevitably became louder and more powerful near the end of the piece.…

They all worked very well together you could see the relationships they had built when they played together. Their music was elegant and smooth, their tones and notes were all within the same range. There were a few mistakes the band members made that I could tell. They were able to keep going strong and not let the mistake slow them down though. Everyone in the band had solos to be able to show off their individual talent, although most of the solos were by the saxophones and the trumpets. The second song with vocals had two men and one girl. The men did very well and had ranges of notes that were very low, while the girl only sang when there were high notes that needed to be reached. In the last song there was the most solos, nine in total. This was my favorite song to watch the band perform while some of the others were my favorite to listen too. In the last song the band let loose and I could tell they were having fun. They were all moving around while playing their instruments. They really embellished their solos and they all looked happy while…

During the Nutcracker I recognized some of the music through out the show. It was classic music that played. The Nutcracker reminded me of the music we listen to in class when we were learning about there romantic period. I thought that the dancing was very pretty and went along with the music very well. I was amazed how you could hear all the different instruments during the show. I personally heard the violin a, flute, cello, clarinet, horns, trumpets, trombones, and also I heard the string family in the Nutcracker. There was more instrument in the show, but the instruments that mention stood out the most to me while I was at the show. I thought all the dances went well and corresponded with the music. I thought of the flow of the music…
