Hi Jackie,

I believe you want to work in the care profession. I have worked in Care for a couple of years now, l thought I'd get in touch to try and help you out. There are different terms used in care, which would be handy for you to know.
For example Duty of Care means you have a legal obligation to always act in the best interest of individuals and others. Not to act or fail to act in away that results in harm don't take on anything you do not believe you can safely do If you don't follow these can lead to disciplinary action or even prosecution.

Part of Duty of Care not only are you working within the law but also with policies and procedures and agreed ways of working with in your workplace.
These are in place not only to protect and guide individuals but also their families, friends, their property, work colleagues, your employer and yourself.

Working in care you are accountable for your own work and to take responsibility for maintaining and improving your knowledge skills, Keeping accurate and up to date records and protecting confidential information.
Safeguarding individuals from harm or being treated unfairly understand that people have the right to make choices help them to remain independent and fulfilling their lives.
I know it sounds a lot to remember there is all ways someone on hand for advice, whether it be another colleague, senior, manager a doctor, a district nurse, a social worker or even a family member.
Some times bad things happen, equipment isn't working or care needs change, if you notice any of these you have to report these to a senior member of staff even if its a work colleague.
Sometimes you may feel that there is a conflict between your duty of care and the wishes of the client. Best interest decisions can only be made for individuals who cannot decide matters for themselves starting to think about best interest you need to be
