This paper was prepared for Orientation to Social Services SCWK 1321
Taught by Professor Roxine Simms. What Are My Personal Code Of Ethics? Developing a personal code of ethics involves reflecting upon my personal moral principles, to discover what I believe to be the foundation of who I am and how these codes or ethics influence my relationships with people in every aspect of my life including my relationships with my clients. Ethics involve principles that shape the way we as Human Service Workers interact with our clients and allow us to provide the best quality of care that we can give. Staying true to my personal principles and building a good strong foundation to build personal ethics is absolutely necessary. This paper takes a look at my personal principles and ethics and compares my views to the views of professional Organizations. I will also discuss what qualities I value in other people and how they affect my career, while also learning about other cultures and other obstacles that could possibly get in my way and how I handle them. And finally, I will discuss how my personal ethics have changed and dramatically enhanced my life and how the Human Service Industry has saved my life. In order to understand how and why these principles are so important in shaping my ethics, I have included the importance of each principle as it pertains to me.
What does Autonomy mean to me? My personal definition of Autonomy is the way I am able to support and encourage my clients decisions and choices and not controlling their behaviors or changing their opinions or beliefs. This includes being able to help my clients recognize their personal choices and helping them move the healthy direction.
What does no maleficence mean to me? This means that I will in no way bring any harm to my clients. This involves being selfless, non-judging, and
