V for Vendetta Plot Summary:
The Story takes part in an alternate, futuristic version of Great Britain which is ruled by a corrupt and abusive totalitarian government. The people living in London are repressed and barley have any rights. One young lady doesn’t care because she doesn’t like the system. So one night, when she is on her way to a good friend, she is walking around the streets of London and gets caught by the fingermen (the futuristic, corrupt policemen) who want to rape and kill her. At first Evey is trying to fight them, but she isn’t strong enough so she gives up the hope to survive. Just at that moment a caped man, who is wearing a Guy Fawkes Mask, appears and fights the fingermen to help Evey. After finishing with the last one of the patrol he takes unconscious Evey to his shelter. He takes care of her and tells her that his name is V and that he is a fighting for freedom and justice in this corrupt state. V embodies the principles of rebellion from an authoritarian state and he is wearing the Guy Fawkes Mask (who was a British terrorist who wanted to lead a revolution sparked by assassination and destruction) because he is impressed by Fawkes’s ideas and convictions and so he tries to do the same. He likes to use the Phrase: “Remember, remember the 5th of November”, which is part of a popular poem telling the story of Fawkes and “the gunpowder treason”. After Evey has recovered, V stages an arrest to test if she is loyal to him and does not tell the fingermen about his plans and shelter. Evey thinks that she got caught by the fingermen and that she really is in jail, but after V reveals her the truth she is angry with him but promises not to tell anybody about him. After Evey has left his hideout, V is going to seek revenge and kills the people who have done bad things to him. V was imprisoned when he was younger and he had to be an experimental rabbit to test a new disease, which would be used as weapon. But he survived and was able to flee the prison
