In this lecture, Mr. Steube introduced his background to us so that we knew he also went for USF MBA program in 1995, worked in a real estate company, and is now the director of emerging technology, Cox Target Media. He also introduced to us abundant high-end electronic applications and technologies such as the robot, 3D web camera, electronic wallet, passbook, electronic coupon, even 3D printing. He told us that technology changes quickly, so we have to keep up to the newest trend to maintain pace for our company and to stay competitive. He told us that as a marketing leader, his job consists of ‘‘selling the information’’ to his customers just like what he was doing for us. He emphasized that the platform for technology in mobile devices has surpassed the desktop and showed us a lot of prevailing mobile apps which are marketed by him. He revealed his secret of success is based on ‘‘team work’’ because ‘‘invention’’ and
‘‘ideation’’ cannot be done by oneself alone. And the most important part of team work is brainstorming, which enables people to share problems and discuss the technology trends, marketing strategies, and internal problems.

This lecture was very thoughtful and also interesting to me because I even got a

Peter has decided to use the brainstorming method so as to able to undertake solutions to the problems identified. According to him, brainstorming will be a useful way of generating radical solutions to the problems. Since brainstorming combines a relaxed, informal approach to problem-solving with lateral thinking, it asks that people come up with crazy and creative ideas and thoughts that can be crafted into original, creative solutions to the problem that needs to be solved, while others can still come up with more ideas. As brainstorming can be divided into two types: individual and group brainstorming; Peter has decided to go with individual brainstorming. He feels that when his staff brainstorm on their own, they come up with more ideas (and often better quality ideas) than groups of people who brainstorm together. Eventually he will place his staff members into group brainstorming, as group brainstorming can develop ideas in more depth than individual brainstorming. It also helps everyone to feel…

For someone who is hesitant to share his or her opinion or idea, leaders should encourage their participation by offering some their own opinions and ideas on the matter and asking a question or two regarding his or her thoughts. Through back and forth dialogue, slowly the leader would obtain the individuals ideas and opinions on the project. By obtaining everyone on the teams thoughts, a well-informed final decision can be made on how to proceed. By doing this, the reluctant team member will believe that they have contributed to the project.…

Putting together a team to cohesively work on a project or a goal in theory should be effective. But after a while without the benefit of outside independent thinkers or questioning the thoughts/actions of others within the group the process can become tainted. Eventually “ concurrence-seeking becomes so dominant in a cohesive ingroup that it tends to override realistic appraisal of alternative courses of action”1. The group's original purpose of creation becomes more and more ineffective as long as groupthink festers without treatment.…
